Customer Rating: Summary: Oh, why not... Comment: I'll give it 4 stars. The book, after all, is written for high school kids! I bought the book due to movie hype. I do love reading first time authors, I find they are often an authors best books. I do plan to buy the next book, and have hopes that the author expands.
Bottom line, I thought Stephanie Meyer caught the angst of high school romance, as if she graduated last June. I was transported back (was it really 40 years!), and was impressed with her ability to stir the memory of high school crushes. (Of course, this may be a down side, as an 'elder' reader I know the reality of high school loves, but I was reminded that at the time...) I also, must admit, I love a good vampire story. I've yet to find a decent vampire since Anne Rices' Interview With The Vampire & Vampire Lestat books, and the movie Dracula with Gary Oldman. This series has potential. Maybe I should reread Interview, but I have hope that Meyer will join the others as a good vampire story.
Customer Rating: Summary: short & sweet Comment: Don't waste your time or money. This book and the following in the series is not worth the effort.
Customer Rating: Summary: I have wasted my time Comment: I love to read. I adore reading more than watching TV. I received this book from a friend of mine who swore to me that I needed to read it; this is the last time I will be listening to this friend.
I cannot believe that any self respecting adult would read this! the linguistics and plot are like something out of a "B" movie or a dumbed down teenage romance novel. Why this is hailed as some miracle book "akin to the Harry Potter phenomenon" is WAY beyond me! I found nothing worthwhile in the characters or the plot. Reading the reviews of this book located on this page were more entertaining and intellectually stimulating than the book itself ever was or could be. Children would weep of boredom.
I am an avid reader of vampire novels. I have never shied away from a set of fangs in my life. I was eager to read this and I had hoped it would live up to my expectations. I was sorely mistaken.
Let's start at the beginning. Why does the author feel the need to reiterate details that a normal person would absorb after the first mention? To say that Edward was charming and angelic once would be enough. Twice would prove a specific point. Any more than that and the author has never heard of a thesaurus. I also seriously question the author's imagination and ability to put together an in depth and meaningful plot.
Secondly, NOTHING HAPPENED! I spent over 500 pages waiting for a climax that never happened. Edward and Bella never fight, never worry about anything, never make plans, they never cuss, they hardly even kiss!!! What the hell about this book pulled me into the plot or made me feel for the characters? I often had to put the book down for days at a time just so I wouldn't throw it across the room.
Fifth graders write better vampire stories than this. I pity Stephanie Meyer immensely.
Thirdly, All of the characters are completely overblown and cliched. Daywalking vampires are not a new concept; it's been done. The "heroine" (and I use the term as loosely as my conscience allows) doesn't know she's beautiful? So overdone. And who hasn't heard of the charming yet endearing vampire sweeping the maiden off her feet? I can't even think about this book without sighing and shaking my head. I've been more drawn into to gossip in a local middle school than I was into this book. And that's how the novel came off to me: as one huge middle school drama. The TV show Degrassi has more intrigue than this book! Hell, Sesame Street has more appeal than this book!
I don't mean to sound overly harsh but it's novels like this that make authors worldwide laugh at Americans. I learned more from Harry Potter (a blatant children's book) than I could hope to garner from this long winded waste of time. I don't believe novels must have sex and violence to be entertaining but a conflict of some sort is not beyond expectation. In fact, conflict is what sucks a reader into the storyline and makes them feel as if they're there with the characters. It makes the people real and makes you want to learn more about them. I can honestly say that I knew nothing more about Bella and Edward at the end than I did at the beginning. And it's sad to say, I didn't care to.
When I was a teenager I read Jane Austin and Shakespeare for pity's sake! Are we so desperate to have Americans in the limelight that we'll publish anything? The author is obviously Mormon. The publisher has Mormon roots. Is the popularity simply a case of Mormons promoting their own?? I can't explain it otherwise.
Please, whatever you do, do not read this novel. If you do I can only promise you a headache and smaller IQ. I feel dumber for having read this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: IM SURE YOU'VE ALREADY HEARD ABOUT HOW FANTASTIC THIS BOOK IS, Comment: but i absolutely had write a review on this book either way.
im a 14 year old teenaged girl and i love this book with all my heart and soul. this book completely changed my perspective on how love should be, edward and bella's love is dangerous & intense. & throughout all the pages you feel as if your on edge, and you just HAVE to keep turning the pages and keep reading more of it. im not gonna go into every little detail of this book, cause im sure you've heard lots of talk about the movie and books already.
& dont get me wrong, this isnt just a love story meant for teenagers, i have some guy friends at school that have read the book or seen the movie, and they say they really enjoyed it. not only that but im now hearing aobut adult women, like even moms, who LOVE this book! there's a lot in this book that alot of people can connect to, and i would definitely recommend you to read this book, im sure it'll overwhelm you as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very entertaining book Comment: Twilight is a wonderful book about forbidden love between a vampire and a human. I loved the book and think it deservesmany positive reviews and comments. It is a great novel recommended for adolescents and adults. Go Twilight! =D

The movie tie-in edition of the #1 bestselling trade paperback includes a collectible full-color, fold-out poster.
Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.
Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.
