Summary: Inspirational
Comment: This book touches many people in different ways, whether struggling with weight issues to just accepting changes in one's life. This book is great for anyone trying to deal with a change i their life. It is a quick read and it can inspire you to take your life back one pound at a time!

Summary: Is that all there is?
Comment: I was looking forward to a story of triumph, but all I found in this book was the story of a young girl who's not grown up yet. She's still "playing a role" only it's herself in her life story. It's another celebrity-gone-bad tale and after a while the druggie lifestyle references became tired. Best warning for kids today--don't let this happen to you.

Add in the poor writing, crude language, and the egocentric lifestyle and you have Paris, Lindsay, etc., just several years earlier.

Not worth the time, actually. Wish it could have been kinder, but Valerie, you have a habit of seeing the glass as half empty.

Summary: You Have Outdone Yourself
Comment: I just finished reading "Losing It", in less than 4 days, in probably less than a dozen hours. Valerie, you have outdone yourself in my mind. I have always loved you as an actress, & now this book is just so truthful, helpful & inspiring. I must say that as I read the last chapter, I was almost in tears, as I started doing a reality check in my own life, & in also trying to play the weight loss game. I wish it was you I could talk to.

I commend you on your courage & for being candid & open. I love true stories, especially true stories about success.

Kudos & congratulations to you on being a wonderful person, a great mom, a great spokesperson, & simply for just being you! I am so glad you wrote this book. I highly recommend it, whether one is thinking about their weight or not. It's a win-win situation, & a must read. Thank you dear lady.

Summary: A Must Read
Comment: Valerie and I are only a couple of years apart in age, so I feel like I grew up with her(and her character in "One Day at a Time").

I won't get into detail about the specific content of the book - other reviews have already done that.

The way the book touched me is that I have recently lost over 30 pounds through another weight-loss program, and her reflections about her relationship with food were profoundly familiar. It was a relief for me to know I was not the only one trying to find comfort or covering unhappiness with food. Reading her account brought out feelings I didn't even know I had.

Her weight-loss journey took her to a new level of self-discovery and happiness that we should all strive for.

Bravo Valerie - thank you for sharing your very personal experiences - I think anyone battling weight-loss should read this book. I know it inspired me....

Summary: Not Impressed
Comment: While yes, she does talk about herself in this book, it seems mostly about her ex husband, Eddie Van Halen. Somehow I have little respect for someone who dishes this kind of dirt on another person, true or not. And I found myself disliking her. If Jenny Craig paid me a butt load of money to be a spokesperson, I'd lose the weight too.

Editorial Reviews:

A Note to Amazon Readers (and a Q&A) from Valerie Bertinelli

Dear Amazon Customer,

Glad to see you here and hopefully purchasing my book. I've heard if you buy multiple copies it's a better experience--a better one for me! But seriously, I'm usually on Amazon, too. I've been buying books through the site for ten years. I enjoy reading the reviews. I get a good sense of the book, and I like to hear what other people have to say. Like in a traditional bookstore, I can look at the cover, peek inside the book, and check out the bestseller lists.

Valerie

  1. Do you have a favorite character from a book? I love Scout and Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird.
  2. If you can be any character from a book, who would you like to be? I would like to be Scarlett and I would let Rhett know how much I love him.
  3. How do you decide what next book you want to read? If it's for my book group, whoever hosts the next gathering picks the book, so it's picked for me seven out of eight times. But on my own, I read reviews and ask people whose taste I like what they're reading.
  4. Where's your favorite place to read? Either lying in bed or on the sofa next to the fireplace.
  5. What is your favorite genre? I don't really have one.
