Summary: WHY IS IT NOT ON DVD?
Comment: The only problem with this movie is that it is on tape instead of disc, and that it is a poor copy for a tape at that. The recording quality painfully hurts what is one of the last truly literate romantic comedies in which Hepburn starred. This does not even count the masterful Laurence Olivier. made. Personally, I opine that it ranks evenly with the "The Taming of the Shrew" with Richard Burton and Liz Taylor. For anyone who has not seen "The Taming of the Shrew" please simply imagine Shakespeare's brilliance coupled with the acting skills of Burton and Taylor.

This movie is just as good. The script is simply brilliant, and the acting is sublime. Certainly one of Hepburn's greatest performances. She plays the part of an actress playing an actress. QED.

Please, if you watch this and love it, write your own reviews pleading with the industry that the movie be re-released in clearer DVD format.

Thank you,

Seth Aragorn

Summary: The best ever
Comment: I saw this film the first time as a teenager and never forgot it. I tried to track it down over the years and have finally found it. It only took 30 years. It is a classic that never had it's due recognition. Great acting with great humor.

Summary: Rare perfection
Comment: This is one of those all-too-rare films where nothing can be bettered, and certainly not imitated. Anyone who thinks that it should be remade is guilty of the worst sort of film heresy.

Olivier and Hepburn are at the top of their form as one-time lovers who reunite so that Arthur Granville-Jones (Olivier), England's most famous barrister, can defend Jessica Medlicott (Hepburn), a rich widow, against a breach of promise suit. Olivier is astounding as a man who has been in love with one woman for more than forty years. Hepburn is sparkling as a recently-widowed former actress who suddenly finds herself attracted to her barrister; she has forgotten their one-time affair entirely.

The year is 1911, with rich, elaborate costumes and surroundings. The dialogue is among the best ever written for a film. And the music is incomparable. I join the others who ask, "Why isn't this on DVD?" It's one that you can't forget.

Summary: Time for release on DVD
Comment: I still remember this wonderful film after watching the broadcast premier many years ago. It's time for it to be released on DVD, where it will be preserved for posterity and enjoyed for years to come. I would also love to see a remake for the big screen, with Streisand and Redford in the lead roles.
