Summary: Different western
Comment: A very fine western,. Suspensful. A different western, but still classic in many ways. Dean Martin is truly great in this one. It is a very sad movie also. As a viewer you get very much engagedand involved. I came to hate Rocks Hudson's character, or not the charatcter itself but the way he behaved, his foolish stubbornes.

Summary: Sad, Wonderful Western
Comment: Dean and Rock are both excellent in this film. Dean provides the much needed comedy, as this is a very heavy and sad film. Rock is fantastic, but Dean owns the film. He's always wonderful, and this is no exception (it IS a "70's" western and they've followed the "True Grit" trend, as Dean is fixed up more in that fashion while still being "Dino"). It's wonderful to watch the dynamic between the two actors, it's always wonderful to see Dean in a western (note the great horsemanship he has here, as always), and the story is a wonderful one. Susan Clark isn't any good, but it's still more than worth watching--with a box of tissues.

Summary: Don't Bother With this One
Comment: The acting in this movie appears forced and is not very good.--It is not a good western. Looks like one that was made to fufill an obligation on an contract or something. Dean is at his lowest in this one. Western fans--Avoid this one!!!!!!

Summary: "Angels With Dirty Faces" out west
Comment: Boyhood pals Rock Hudson and Dean Martin grow up to live on opposite sides of the law in this entertaining Western that is a sort of variation on the theme of 1938's "Angels With Dirty Faces" with Martin taking over for James Cagney and Hudson stepping in for Pat O' Brien. Although, like a lot of Universal "product" at the time, it has TV stamped all over it (and both of the stars were headlining NBC shows during this period), and it was probably intended as nothing more than a fulfillment of a feature film clause in Hudson's "McMillan and Wife" contract with the studio, it somehow reaches beyond its modest beginnings to become something a little deeper and of higher quality than was perhaps intended.
