Customer Rating: Summary: Washington: The One True Hero of our Country Comment: I taped this when it first appeared on TV years ago & am glad I did. The role of our country's Founding Father could not have been played by a better actor - Barry Bostwick. Unfortunately at present there is a concerted effort on the left to reduce Washington to no more than a racist slaveowner - this while elevating Abraham Lincoln to god-like status. Some historians like to make the point that Lincoln never owned slaves. That's debatable, while the fact that he certainly "hired out" the services of numerous slaves is not. Lincoln single handedly destroyed our constitution and most of the principles on which our country was founded. We will eternally feel the effects of what Lincoln has done and the millions of lives he destroyed forever in the process - all for the agenda and gain of his political party. Its sad and ironic that in our public schools, Lincoln is held up before our young children as the great emancipator and savior of our country, while the story of George Washington is relegated to perhaps an occasional mention. Never forget what Washington and those who fought and sacrificed alongside him did for us. I hope that one day our government controlled pubic schools will somehow see fit to bring George Washington back - in order to impart a true sense of history to those young minds who desparately need to know it - now more than ever. The George Washington mini-series with Bostwick in the key role, does a very good job of conveying to viewers a bit of what that period was like - before, during and after the American Revolution. PLEASE release this production to DVD!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Where's the DVD? Comment: When so much uninteresting garbage is currently published on DVD, I find it hard to believe that this outstanding mini-series is not available.
Romanticized? Sure, but for what it is, it is reasonably factually accurate (certainly moreso than the average), and makes a lively and interesting story. Washington the frontiersman, Washington and Sally Fairfax, Washington and Braddock, Washington and Martha's children, Washington the homebody, Washington the soldier, Washington struggling with the Continental Congress, Washington for whom the United States Presidency was specifically created. All of it is here in this series. The depiction of the speech to the officers at Newburgh in 1783 alone is worth more than a dozen simpleton "comedies" or FX movies!
Again, where is the DVD?
Customer Rating: Summary: We need this on dvd! Comment: What could be better to watch over the 4th of July than this miniseries? I echo others sentiments and want to ask whoever is in control of the rights to please put this on dvd. I can't believe it is not yet available.
Customer Rating: Summary: Geroge Washington 1 Comment: this must be made in cd and soon. The best I have ever seen. Lets go amazon use your influence.
Customer Rating: Summary: An Excellent Intimate History of Washington Comment: This miniseries came out when I was in 2nd grade. Our teacher had a poster up for it and encouraged us to watch every installment, which I did, and loved it. It really needs to be on DVD. It sucks that someone is trying to scalp us $180 for used VHS tape of this, and I won't pay that, but hope CBS sees fit to put it on DVD soon.
