Summary: Highly recommended
Comment: I love this and "The Firm: Sculpted Buns, Hips, and Thighs", they have effective exercises to target the thighs and hips, and the workout isn't too long. I also like how these are "floor leg" workouts, meaning they don't involve any standing/jumping/squatting/lunging for the days when my knees or feet are too tired from work.

By the way, I would recommend these two videos above the newer "Body Sculpting - Fast & Firm Series" Hips, Thighs, and Abs" video.

Summary: its good-not really total body
Comment: This tape is still good though a little dated. The excercises aren't dated though.I do prefer the first section and I rewind for the double aerobics, which gives you quite a bit of squatting and leg pressing. For floor work, there are probably better tapes out there.Still LaReine is a good role model and she is pleasant and not annoying like many instructors. It is not really total body, but there is only so much you can do in 45 minutes.

Summary: Tough but fun and effective
Comment: I llike this tape. The aerobics is step aerobics, using light weights. The waltz type step work is great for the buns. It can be a bit confusing to do the steps while holding weights, but after doing the tape a few times, you will get the hang of it. It has a feature where you can rewind and do the aerobics twice, making the total aerobic time of 22 minutes. If you are short on time, don't rewind and you will get about 11 minutes of aerobics. If you do the "double aerobics" you will end up doing 4 sets of leg press on each leg. The floor work is great and really targets the lower body. The ab work is a killer.
I like the instructor, she is encouraging but calm (unlike Janet Jones-Gretsky who is absolutely annoying with all that exhaling). Plus, LaReine is not a boney rail like the other instructors.

I do wish this tape had more upper body work. Upper body consists of 2 sets of pushups, each set is 8 reps. One set of french press (16 reps) and one set of work for the back.

Summary: Great workout!
Comment: I've been buying a number of The Firm tapes, and this is one of my favorites. After warmup and stretching, there's a 10 minute cardio section involving a step. You are cued when to rewind if you want a longer cardio section. The hips and things sculpting involved weights and different positioning, and is great. I wished the ab workout was a little more varied in the type of exercise involved, and it didn't involve any weights.

This is a great tape for days when you want to focus on sculpting specific areas.

Summary: One of the Top Three.....
Comment: This is among my top three favorite Firm tapes. I know some have indicated that they don't like the instructor LaReine, but I have no problem with her. She's very calm and gives clear instructions. If you want a great lower body workout, this tape will definitely give it to you and in less than an hour a session.
My other top favorites include The Firm Total Body Low Impact Aerobics tape (number 1 in my book). Janet Jones Gretzky, makes it enjoyable, yet challenging at the same time and you work up a serious sweat. But don't be fooled by the notion that this is a "low impact" tape. IT IS NOT!
Number 2 -- in fact, almost in a tie for first place on my list -- is the first Firm tape ever starring Susan Harris. You'll barely remember your name when you're done 65 minutes later . But your body will look -- and feel -- great.

Editorial Reviews:

"Quick" and "efficient" are two words that could describe the Firm's Total Body: Abs, Hips & Thighs Sculpting workout. Through the use of weights, a tall step, and some good old-fashioned squats and lunges, the lower body is trained for both strength and stamina. Instructor LaReine Chabut leads this 45-minute workout with a calm authority that is not too overbearing or invasive. The music is anything but supercharged here, but the content makes up for the lack of inspirational tunes. Chabut conducts a sequence of floor exercises that target the inner and outer thighs (hip adductor and abductor), along with the gluteus, hamstrings, and quadricep muscles. Although it is impossible to spot reduce, it is definitely possible to spot train, and this session zeros in on areas that seem to accumulate fat quickly (abdominals, hips, and thighs). These exercises can aid in building lean muscle and strength (even more so if diet and cardiovascular exercise are also added). One key to reaching the full potential of this dynamite program would be to increase your hand-weight size as your fitness level increases. Within this short workout, the major muscles of the lower body are trained intensely, and many participants may even be sore after this program. People of all fitness levels should have no trouble executing this format because of its informative and approachable design. All participants will need hand weights and a tall step before getting started. --Olivia Voigts
