Customer Rating: Summary: Unbelievable, outstanding, mind-blowing! Comment: I'm blown away, this is one, if not THE best CD I have at home. I have listened to it hundreds of times. Truely.
Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely love it! Comment: I think this is one of the best CDs I own. This was probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Customer Rating: Summary: YANNI, nothing else Comment: While flipping through television channels one Sunday evening back in 1994, I stopped at PBS. Intriqued by the set, which was in Greece, I watched a long-haired good looking man playing the keyboard, backed by a huge orchestra. The song grabbed my attention, and I became a Yanni fan
forever. TRIBUTE has a terrific collection of songs, including RENEGADE and NIGHTENGALE. There is a nice balance of material. By the way, the PBS show was YANNI at the Acroplis, and the song----STANDING IN MOTION. I have also seen Yanni in concert in Vegas, 4 times, and hope he returns to Las Vegas soon.
Customer Rating: Summary: How can I say that this is his best? Comment: Yanni is a great composer, sexy musician and the best piano player I know.
I heard people saying "Music" is "Divine"...and his composition is one of the best examples for that.
I don't know who Yanni was, until I watched his live concert at Taj Mahal on TV. I was very disappointed with myself, because I came to know about him so lately, and I missed his inspirational music all these days.
After that I started listening to his other collections and believe me each and every composition is a gem.
I gave four rating, because a person of his caliber will definitely make his next performance best than earlier one.
And last but not least, hats off to his fellow performers and orchestral accompaniment, who are definitely adding a lot to his efforts.
Eagerly waiting for his next opus.
Customer Rating: Summary: It was not the disc I was expecting Comment: First of all, I will say Yanni's music seems fascinating for me. He is not only a fantastic composer and a virtuoso player. His arrangements are incredible and his shows are unique and spectacular.
Like this. This disc has all I've said before. So, why doesn't have the full five stars? There are a few reasons.
When you have listened to all Yanni's dics you can see he has done a lot of remasterings, concerts and compilations. This disc has almost all-new material, excepting for a new version of classic "Niki Nana". Things begin to come worse...
"Deliverance", "Renegade", "Waltz in 7/8" and even "Love is All" are great songs as many of the disc. I pointed aut "Love is All" is a good song. It has great lyrics and the singing performance is great. Yanni does not do normally "songs" but this is a good one.
I watched the concert in TV and I loved it. It could be a perfect continuation of "Live at the Acropolis" which I can say it is one of the best concerts ever made by any artist. It will deserve 5.5 stars for me. And "Tribute" could even reeach to five, but as I said it has great weaknesses.
"Niki Nana" is a good song but in this "Tribute" is almost deconstructed. The singers demonstrate they have a loud and clear voice. But they keep on utter all along the performance. The chorus is faded out. The orchestra seems to be in a hurry because it is the last song of the concert. Oh, dear, it is a terrible epilogue to a marvellous concert.
And yes, it is a concert. So, where are the clappings and the warmth of the public? Only in the end you hear something of this. This is not a studio album and it is easily recognizable, but it seems to be hidden by the production. Even Yanni is almost absent. In "Live at the Acropolis" he is a little out of focus, but he remembers he is there in a few remarks all along the album. In "Tribute" there are no comments, no claps, no cheer "until the last moment".
Yes, it is a pity. Sure they didn't want to make "Live at the Taj Majal and the Forbidden City" in order not to make it "Live at the Acropolis 2". But if the "first volume" is a masterpiece, why not to make another one?

The album's title is Tribute, but it just as easily could be called Spectacle. Everything here is done on a grand scale, from its ambitious staging areas (the Taj Mahal and China's Forbidden City re-creations) to its large gathering of instrumentalists (more than two dozen) to the histrionics of two impassioned vocalists on a pair of the album's 11 tracks. The only thing missing seems to be the maestro himself--so submerged is the visionary-keyboardist in the mix. The musician showcased most often on Tribute turns out to be energetic violinist Karen Briggs, a familiar figure by now to all who have watched Yanni's global ramblings on television. The compositions and arrangements, it seems, are intended to be the stars as Yanni lives out his Beethoven-like dream sequence. Stylistically, the music ranges from urban smooth jazz to earnest orchestral sweeps. A grand concept, but not an entirely great result. --Terry Wood
