Summary: Even better than your old cassette! :)
Comment: Oh my gosh, my sister had the cassette of this back in the day & we listened to it NON-STOP. We knew every single word to every single song and, of course, we still do.

I hadn't listened to this in FOREVER until a couple years ago when I came across the cd & bought it.

What good memories! What GREAT songs!! Does it get any better than this?! Talk about taking you back to a time & place!

I LOVE this cd! I guarantee my sister has it now, too. It's probably in her car right now. :)

If you had this on cassette, get it on cd.

Summary: Memories
Comment: When I listen to this soundtrack now I am transported to my bedroom in 1986. I loved Left of Center, Wouldn't it be good and Please let me get what I want especially. This soundtrack musically spoke to me as I trasversed through my teenage years. It still holds up now 22 yrs( : O) later!!!

Summary: A 80's classic!
Comment: Who doesn't love the music that John Hughes used in his films?!? Pretty in Pink is another great 80's movie soundtrack of stuff you just like to have around because it takes you back to that place in time :)

Summary: Formed the backbone of what I listened to for 10 years
Comment: I picked this up on vinyl back in the 80's, and played it obsessively. I grew up in a small farming community, and somehow, country music didn't do it for me. I had no idea what else to listen to, until I bought this soundtrack. I didn't know who any of the bands were at the time, but loved them all so much that I began to track them down. This was before INXS hit it big, but when I heard another one of their songs, I rushed out and bought their album. I was sure that Suzannne Vega had a pipeline to my soul--I was Left of Center--and she understood! Morrissey's voice was like a beacon from elsewhere, and for the next 10 years, I listened to New Order and the Smiths constantly. I own all of Echo and the Bunnymen now, I think, and the Psychedelic Furs will always have a place in my heart for their marvelous version of this fantastic song. I was perhaps the only person in America to track down a Belois Some album, which I still have. It's great!

Essentially, this soundtrack became a sourcebook for me. It was the first "trendy" non main stream commercial pop that I had found. The fact that all of these songs sound like perfect classic 80's pop is a testament to the person who compiled this. This soundtrack doesn't sound revolutionary any more, but this was essentially for me the 80's equivalent of Seth Cohen introducing Ryan Atwood to Death Cab for Cutie.

If you love delicious pop music, if you adore the 80's, if you secretly wish Molly Ringwald still was a huge star, rush out and buy this. You won't be disappointed.

Editorial Reviews:

Few filmmakers managed to capture the awkward coming-of-age catastrophes of '80s teens the way John Hughes did, just as few soundtracks encapsulate the sound of an era better than this one does. It's not the best 1986 had to offer, but it's a cohesive whole, transporting the listener to that other time, imagined or otherwise. There's enough variety to ensure that it doesn't become wallpaper, and very little filler. "Left of Center" by Suzanne Vega, with Joe Jackson on piano, is tremendous and transcends generations. Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler has long been bemused about Hughes not taking Molly Ringwald's character's name from the title song, which inspired the film, but everyone was paying too much attention to what Ducky was wearing to notice anyway. --Scott Wilson
