Summary: Best 1st video
Comment: I purchased this video in 1997 and slowly introduced it to my newborn son. He became more interested in it little by little until he was able to sit through the whole video. He is now 7 1/2 and a 6th grade reader! We used many other tools as well, yet the classical music and red, white and black shapes, helped him understand shapes we are sure! I recommend that you slowly introduce if he/she does not seem interested.

Summary: BORING..not very entertaining
Comment: I tried this video with my daughter at 3 months, then at 6 months. Both times she was very distracted and wouldn't pay attention to the colors or objects. She did like the Einstein videos, but this one just didn't move along fast enough. She did like the music in between the scenes, but overall, just didn't like this one at all.

Summary: Not as captivating as other videos out there
Comment: I've purchased many of the "baby" videos on the market. This one just doesn't measure up to the rest. Sound quality is poor and seems rather dull. My children prefer the Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby series over the Babyscapes line, from birth on up. My three-year-old still loves to watch those with his six month-old sister. Avoid these, they just aren't worth the money.

Summary: GIVES MOMS SOME TIME FOR THEMSELF
Comment: I purchased this video for my twins when they were 6 mths old. They loves it then and still do at a year old. This video gives me a chance to shower and even calms down my twins when they are cranky. I do not feel bad for putting them in front of the t.v. anymore if this is on. I also have 2 more baby scapes videos my girls love them both..

Editorial Reviews:

Who doesn't want a smart baby? This video was previously called Babyscapes--before the company's remarkable success led them to take the name over as the production company name. Originally released in 1996, this video was a pioneer of sorts, featuring CGI shapes and colors (in primarily black, red, and white to draw the attention and interest of the youngest of viewers). The images are set to classical music, and this video is not only an easy way to stimulate your precious little one but a video that parents, caregivers, and older siblings will appreciate after many repeated viewings. Why? Because it offers soothing, beautiful music. Included are: Delibes's Pizzicato Polka, Pachelbel's Canon, Bach's "Air on a G String," Beethoven's "Für Elise," Grieg's "Anitra's Dance," and Brahms's "Lullaby."

For the initial screenings, parents should watch along with their babies, noting the contrasting colors and shapes and dancing to the rhythms of the music. Afterwards, parents may be amazed to find how this video can hold the interest of baby--and be content to know experts deemed this combination of classical music, shapes, and colors good stimulation for your baby's growing mind. It also comes with a very helpful booklet. This is a perfect--and uniquely useful--baby shower gift for parents-to-be or recent parents. (Ages 3 months to 3 years) --N.F. Mendoza
