Summary: I Know It's Only Rock N' Roll, But I Like IT!
Comment: As a diehard Hendrix fan... like who isn't, I have to confess I felt that some of Jimi's best songs are conspicuously missing from this album. For example, I can live without "Dolly Dagger" but not without "Spanish Castle Magic"! I wish they had consulted me first when picking songs... but, oh well, heavy sigh, they did not. Still, even with its organizational faults, Jimi still rocks.
This is a classic CD; I carry it in my car at all times. I know I am in the universal flow when I turn on the radio and find myself catching the next Jimi song on the radio waves. (It's called hanging ten on the Tao.)
There are some things you simply cannot get enough of, and Jimi Hendrix is one of them. If you are not going to sit down and burn your own customized CD with your favorite Mr. Jimi songs, then get this album. It is the next best thing.

Comment: Jimi Hendrix is one of my all-time favorite musicians and I picked this up a few weeks ago on the cheap. That's one of the best things about download mania because so many used CDs are now available at an inexpensive price. Just about everything that a fan of Hendrix--looking for a quick fix--needs is here on this collection. Certainly all of the classics are, but I recommend listening to his live stuff as, in the flesh, he was even more of a standout than in the studio. Personally, "The Wind Cries Mary, Hey Joe, Little Wing, Red House, Manic Depression, and Crosstown Traffic" are the Hendrix tunes I treasure most. If you don't know his oeuvre though then I would not be surprised if "Purple Haze" and "Foxey Lady" were the ones to immediately impress you most. Those were the tracks I could not get enough of as a boy. Hail Jimi! Gone but never forgotten.
