Customer Rating: Summary: Performs perfectly Comment: After having broken 2 glass French press carafes and cracking a plastic one, I certainly needed a different option. The stainless French press is exactly what I needed---simple, effective and most importantly unbreakable. I have found that I don't need to preheat the carafe; the coffee stays warm enough without that step. Money well spent!
Customer Rating: Summary: Mostly great Comment: Unlike glass, doesn't break. The thermal properties don't really concern me because I decant into another container immediately after brewing.
Inexpensive, unlike the Bodum Columbia and Frieling. And much lighter. Can be banged around with impunity, unlike the Frieling which scratches (I've seen these in action -- very nice looking but a little cumbersome and that beautiful mirror finish won't last without some maintenance).
A few grounds always escape, no matter what you do. I pour through a tea strainer to catch them.
The plunging mechanism completely comes apart for thorough cleaning. Each piece -- other than the obvious black plastic top -- is completely metal (no silicone ring). The mesh screen is getting a little ragged around the edges from two months of daily use, but it's no big deal since I pour through a strainer anyway.
Made in Malaysia.
Customer Rating: Summary: Thermos coffee press Comment: I brought this coffee press on a week-long camping trip. I literally took it out of the package and put it to use! From the first pot to the last, the coffee was great. Occasionally there were a few grounds to contend with, but I found that if I used a travel mug they didn't come through.
I then tried the press at home and didn't get the same results. I guess it is the perfect camping coffee maker. Easy to use & clean up. I would recommend it to anyone who wants hot & strong coffee when camping.
Definitely worth the money!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent! Comment: I bought this because I share an apartment and the last two glass french presses were broken by various room mates. So, I thought this would be a great product because it's steel and will not shatter, no matter how my clumsy my room mates are or will be. It certainly does the job it's supposed to do and keeps the drink warm for longer than my glass pots ever did. The top just needs to be turned so that the heat does not escape. This is just a solid product and is predicted to last a long time.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great alternative to glass press! Comment: I ordered this press several months ago for my husband, who is a bona fide coffee snob. We have used a glass (Bodum) press for many years, but when our carafe broke, I started looking for an alternative. We also travel a lot, and this press met my needs for both problems. The thermos keeps the coffee warm for at least an hour, but probably more. The stainless steel outer has been knocked over at least twice, and there's not so much as a scratch on it. It packs well for trips, camping and otherwise. If you like a coffee press, but don't like the breakable glass carafe, or how quickly it loses heat, this is the press for you! And the price is very affordable! Even coffee-snob-husband loves it!
