Summary: Good workout in my opinion
Comment: This tape is a half and half type of workout. The first half is Yoga and is about 20 minutes. She uses the word functional yoga in her description of some of her exercises. The second half is Pilates. During this section it is advised that you use 3-5 pound weights. I find that if I am running low on exercise time, that I can do the Yoga one day and do the Pilates part the next day. The second half is about 20 minutes also. She advises that you rotate this tape with her Pilates tape-Denise Austin's Mat Workout Based on the Work of J.H.Pilates. I liker her tapes due to her attitude and her personality.

Summary: Guys Like it, Too!
Comment: I like this tape! My husband and I are seniors who try to keep in excellent shape. The first time we did this routine together, he said it was more for women but after the second time, he realized there's a lot more to it than first meets the eye and said he'd gotten an excellent work-out.

It's true that Denise Austin tapes can be tricky to follow at first - her pace zooms! - but by the 3rd or 4th viewing, our muscle memory takes over and that's no problem. By then, I'm really feeling, "You're STRONG!" as she encourages us to hold that difficult pose a minute longer. I like her energy.

I gave this one 4 stars instead of 5 because while we do alternate it with tapes from many others, it's not my favorite Denise Austin routine. I reserve 5 stars for, "Pilates for Every Body," which is packed with so much variety that it's super fun + makes us feel as Denise says, "You've done something good for your body!"

That said, "Power Yoga Plus" is good, too. Just don't give up on it too soon: Before long, you'll be following right along, happy with a pace fast enough to break a good sweat!

Summary: Not really Yoga
Comment: "Power Yoga Plus" by Denise Austin is not really yoga. It has two workouts: the first workout is called "Power Yoga" and the second one is "Power Pilates". Each part is about 20 minutes with an introduction at the beginning. I find the power yoga part to be fast as Denise does not allow enough time for the pose to sink in. She barely gives instructions before each pose, making it hard to follow. She does not give modifications for each poses either. The pilates part is quite similar to that in the Mat workout based on JH Pilates. And again she does not give instructions before poses. I would suggest you to get Gaiam's "Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss" by Suzanne Deason. In the DVD, you can choose the options to have modified poses and different instructors. For Pilates, my suggestion is Winsor Pilates because Marie Winsor explains better.

Summary: If you want a real yoga/pilates tape, look elsewhere!
Comment: This tape represents one of the things I hate about popular fitness instructors, they try to jump on every bandwagon and capitalize. Obviously, Ms. Austin has a strong following and has even produced some great workout videos. What is also obvious is that she is not a trained yoga instructor nor is she a pilates instructor. Yes, her body is very flexible and well toned and she is able to pose and move with some accuracy. However, that is because she is a former cheerleader, aerobics instructor and a woman who keeps her body in shape. Sure, she has taken a few yoga and pilates classes. She may even work with a "consultant" to create her workouts, but this is not responsible instruction. I do own other Denise Austin videos that I like much better. But here she moves too fast, offers poor instructions and is not always accurate technically. Bottom line, unless you are more than a novice, buy a tape from someone with more yoga instruction experience.

Summary: Not real yoga
Comment: Received this as a gift so I tried it out. I have done lots of yoga, and this is most definitely NOT yoga! The traditional poses are modified in ways that oppose what yoga tries to achieve. More importantly, Austin does not explain how to get into the poses in any way that would be understandable to a beginner. She talks too much. Given the chatter and the lack of yoga flow, this doesn't feel like yoga at all. It may be appealing to some, but I give it only 1 star because of the poor instruction. I would suggest trying videos by yoga experts rather than by fitness "experts".

Editorial Reviews:

The Denise Austin Power Yoga Plus video from Video Action Sports includes a 20-minute power yoga session followed by a 20-minute Pilates sculpting session.
