Customer Rating: Summary: A Restaurant Magazine to Avoid Comment: Restaurant Business is a publication issued specifically for restaurant business professionals and it is a magazine I have been glancing at for many years. I have worked in restaurants in the past and I have made decisions involving the running of a restaurant so I have had many opportunities to read this publication.
This magazine is similar to other professional magazines in many ways. It offers advice from a business standpoint and many of the articles are geared toward service and profits. The majority of the reading material is managerial in nature but there is some general advice that could apply to anyone in the business.
Restaurant Business offers a good article here and there but other than the statistics and buying advice, the remainder of this magazine is either boring, obvious, or a combination of both. Even the title of the magazine and its departments are unoriginal. I know that titles alone shouldn't be used to judge a magazine, but in the case of Restaurant Business, their blandness is pretty much on par with the magazine as a whole. Its articles lack the insight and creativity often found in other professional magazines.
It is common to find coupons for bulk food purchases in each issue of this magazine and it is common to find a few educational articles about food. Both other than this, Restaurant Business doesn't have much to offer. It is worth a look if you work in the hospitality industry and can find a copy lying in the break room. But there are other restaurant magazines that provide better reading.
Unless you're an overly enthusiastic restaurant entrepreneur, there is little value in Restaurant Business magazine. It's the type of magazine you skim through looking for something of value and then toss aside.
