Summary: DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS MAGAZINE
Comment: Just as Robert Carr wrote, this magazine is bland. Unfortunately, I subscribed to Create magazine for 2 years and this company bought it. When I got the first magazine I was extremely disappointed by its content, I contacted them immediately to cancel my subscription and was told that they can "honor" my cancellation but couldn't give me a refund, does that make any sense??

I sent a certified letter to the president with no answer. My last resort was an email stating that I will tell my story if they didn't give me my refund, again, they ignored me. So here I am, letting you know how badly they treat their costumers. Dynamic Graphics is a boring magazine with more pages of ads than information, and no respect for their customers. By the way, with Create we could post our portfolios for free on their website, with Dynamic Graphics you have to pay $21 a month or $145 a year!! Subscribe at your own risk.

Summary: A Little Bland
Comment: Received my first edition and I'm a little disappointed by the quality of the content. I had hoped to be a little inspired by the articles, but I find the layout very boring, some of the example projects bland - to the point where I'd disagree with some of their recommendations. But, hey, I'm just being a little too opinionated - read one edition first before subscribing (BTW it took nearly 3 months for the first edition to arrive after subscribing via Amazon).

The scope of the magazine seems good, but I'm left a little deflated by skimming through it. Not great eye candy and a lot of adverts.

Summary: Idea Candy for Experienced and Inexperienced Designers
Comment: This magazine is often said to be intended for graphic design newbies. While it is true that if you are inexperienced to graphic design principles and software, this is the magazine for you --it is also true that pros can get a lot of useful ideas from Dynamic Graphics. As an experienced designer, it sometimes helps me to re-visit basic techniques, color use, schemes and read reviews of new design software just hitting the market (they aren't ALL good). Even graphics pros get 'design blocked' from time-to-time.

I get something useful out of every issue, and the free downloadable stuff on DG's website is a nice treat too!

Summary: Great for beginners especially
Comment: This magazine is targeted to newbies, do-it-yourselfers who may not have much formal design training, and those who are looking for quick, elegant solutions to perennial layout and design chestnuts.

Created for both Mac and PC users, the magazine provides how-tos in design and layout, giving instruction for multiple programs (so, not just how to do something in Illustrator, but also Freehand and Corel, for instance.) It also provides good foundation info on the design/printing/production process. And its annual Better-Than-Ever issue is usually very good.

I would especially strongly recommend it for those on tight budgets, or who design a wide range of communications vehicles in addition to their other, non-design job responsibilities.

Editorial Reviews:

Magazine covering creative design ideas for Mac and PC users. Includes features on basic Photoshop techniques and Powerpoint presentations; columns on color, the rights and wrongs of using copyrighted work on websites, and digital cameras; and articles on technology.
