Summary: As a business owner of a practice management company, the majority of articles educate my staff
Comment: My practice management company deals with multispecialty practices. We assist providers on coding issues, staff management, medical billing, chart audits and problem resolution.
This magazine addresses and confirms many of our own findings and offers refreshing solutions. It also allows my staff to read personal accounts of physicians which I find invaluable.
Writing is clear and user friendly for a non-physician person.

Summary: My office manager & I read every issue cover to cover
Comment: As a pediatric surgeon, I read standard medical journals that apply to my field (eg, Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Annals of Surgery, Journal of Trauma, etc). Medical Economics is not just another dry medical journal in that you won't find any scientific or review papers. Its articles get into the business side of medicine, something we were not really taught in med school or residency. There are also many helpful tips regarding the logistics of running a medical practice. In addition, many articles illustrate the human side of medicine, often describing life-changing interactions with patients, which is at the core of why most of us went to med school in the first place. The articles are also written in a more readable style than you will find in standard medical journals.

Since Medical Economics tries to appeal to the whole spectrum of medicine, any particular primary care physician or specialist will find many articles that are not particularly applicable to him/her. However, there are enough helpful articles to make a subscription worthwhile, regardless of specialty.

Editorial Reviews:

Medical Economics is a unique business resource for busy physicians providing the practical information and expert advice they need to successfully manage their medical practices, their personal finances, and their professional careers. Published since 1923.
