Customer Rating: Summary: What Is Enlightenment? Comment: WHAT IS ENLIGHTENMENT is one of the finest and most respected spiritually oriented journals published today. Each issue focuses on a specific topic involving human spirituality that is thoroughly investigated and debated through articles and interviews with the leading thinkers on the subject. With the ever-expanding interest in spirituality, WHAT IS ENLIGHTENMENT offers readers a forum for inquiring into some of the most important questions of our time.
Customer Rating: Summary: Mixed-Bag Comment: I cancelled my subscription due to the fact that while they do a unique and rather good job in discussing many spiritual issues, they failed to perform decently in two areas: 1) politics and 2) free will. Politically, they displayed in one issue a total lack of political discernment by swallowing anti-Israel, Arab propaganda and disseminating it. On the topic of free will in one edition, the topic was obviously biased against determinism and the discussion was unutterably shallow compared to even basic philosophical study in this subject. Spiritual breadth requires rational discernment instead of simply following the leftist, Boulderish, wooly, ideology so prevailant these days. Overall, not a bad magazine but be discerning when you read it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Am disappointed ... to self centered Comment: It's the sub title 'redefining spirituality for an evolving world' that got my attention both because the magazine has little to do with an evolving world in my opinion than it does with encouraging people to think about themselves to much. Loads of ads, and little that will appeal to the person who thinks beyond themselves.
As a subscriber I have been very disappointed because I was looking for a magazine that encouraged service to others, less materialism, more common sense. Bear in mind it costs $7.50 an issue here in the states, which isn't inexpensive for those who walk the talk of a simple living lifestyle.
Although the new issue that just arrived has a refreshing article 'Why Recycle if the Rapture Is Near' by Maura R. O'Connor with The Reverend Jim Ball, Ph.D., an ordained Baptist minister, is Executive Director of the Evangelical Environmental Network.
But it seems to be the only article in this heavily advertised magazine that is not self centered'. Would be nice if the magazine had a majority of articles that were altruistic in nature which to me is the most important element of spirituality, be it personal or world oriented.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Profound Contribution Comment: This magazine is not only an incredible guide to higher states of consciouness, but it also a place where this fascinating subject gets looked at from multiple perspectives. This is for those souls looking for answers to the most important questions of life.
Customer Rating: Summary: A HAPPY CUSTOMER OF WHAT IS ENLIGHTMENT? Comment: My friend and I have each had subscriptions to WIE for over three years. We thoroughly enjoy every issue. The topics are quite provacative, and they address a wide range of issues. The outlook of the magazine is related to Ken Wilber's "Integral Consciousness" and the Social Evolution of the world. This is real stuff and not the mumbo-jumbo that is often found in spiritually-based books and magazine. Ken Wilber is recognized as the leading philosopher and pandit in the world. I also recommend his books to you.
