Customer Rating: Summary: good price, small and light, auto-crop feature rocks, but slow Comment: I was looking for a scanner to scan two huge boxes of old family
photos. cant beat the price. its small but great for scanning
prints. I like the no power-block to keep down on the clutter. and
I must rave about the auto-crop feature... its exactly what I needed.
if I scan, say, 4 old photos at once it detects the seperate images
and auto-crops them into their own files. a huge time saver so now
I dont have to do the cropping by hand in photoshop.
BUT I returned the lide25 for the lide90 cuz it just wasnt fast enuff.
its usb 1.1. a 600 dpi scan took 120 seconds which just isnt going to
work for a huge box of photos. a 300 dpi scan is 60 seconds but still
not faster enuff. I also couldnt find a way to select any dpi between
300 and 600 if I wanted to do auto-crop so 600 it is. I wish it would
allow me to pick 400 dpi.
great scanner if you dont care about the speed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easy to use Comment: I bought this scanner for my Mom, who loves to scan obituaries and send them to us kids....you all know what I mean. She's in her mid-70's and installed the software and set it up herself. She's been using it regularly, so if ease of use is important, this is the one for you. It's relatively small and very flat. Looks nice too.
Customer Rating: Summary: good quality Comment: Canon lide is really good, no matter which model. This one has basic functions, works well with good quality
Customer Rating: Summary: Love it! Comment: Before I get too far into the review, I should mention I use my scanner for art related purposes. So I do a lot of scanning from sketchbooks of different sizes. I've wanted a flatbed scanner for quite awhile and I recently decided to buy this one. It seemed like a good deal and it was what i wanted. Before that I used an all-in-one device that really didn't give me a good scan. This one fits everything pretty well. The scanning software is good too and easy to figure out. It also seems to scan faster than the all-in-one device and doesn't slow down my computer usage. And I also don't have to plug the scanner in which is absolutely great since I already use the outlet by my pc for a multitude of things. I think next I need to invest in a surge protector. Overall I'd say I'm in love, even though I haven't had it very long.
Customer Rating: Summary: Does not work with Apple OS 10.5.2 Leopard! Comment: This scanner works with my company furnished laptop under XP Pro service pack 2. It does not work with my Mac-mini under OS X 10.5.2 which is why I bought it. When I go to the Canon website it gives me the Mac download for OS 10.5.2 but it fails to install. When I called Canon Tech Support they said it was a Apple problem and that I had to become a "root" user to install it! That also did not work. They then said it was Apple's operating systems fault!!
The problem is the Twain driver is not recognized by the Mac OS. I had never had any problems with other third
party software installing. I do know Canon did not write this for Apple's Universal binary which OS X likes and uses. I cannot recommend this to Apple users until Canon fixes this Twain driver issue.
