Summary: Great fan, but not AS quiet as the reviews sound
Comment: This is a really great fan. It's sturdy and osculates very well. I like the design a lot. When I first got it it seemed a lot smaller then I had imagined but when I turned it on it blasted SO much air. I live in Florida where it can get VERY hot and this little fan has kept me cool for a good while.
What prevents this from being 5 stars is that it is advertised as whisper quiet. Though this may be true compared to other fans, it is still louder than I would like. I am a light sleeper and I find that this is just a tad too loud, though I keep it running during the whole day and it doesn't bother me at all.
Overall, this is a great fan for the price, and my only complaint is that it's not QUITE as quiet as I'd like or as other reviews have said, however it is still pretty quiet and won't get in the way for those who can sleep through some sound.

Summary: Don't Buy This Fan
Comment: In my review for this product I gave it no stars, but the computer program insisted I had to give it a "rating" of apparently at least one star, so I gave it one. But really, this merits no stars. From the picture, and the description, this seemed like a solid little workhorse kind of fan - not some flimsy little plastic model (like the last one I bought) that will fall apart quickly. But when I received it and tried to put it together according to the instructions, I ran into frustration. It is poorly-designed. There is a screw that is the linchpin to holding the fan onto the mount, but it's virtually impossible to wield a screwdriver to properly screw it in between the sharp little metal blades. I tried my best, but although the fan did work when I turned it on, it made a horrible noise, and I assumed I just didn't get the screw in properly or tight enough. So I had my son take it apart and try it again. He ran into exactly the same problem I did in trying to get the screw in properly. Again, the fan worked, but with a horrible noise that made it sound as though it was going to fly apart at any moment. And then the fan stopped working at all. This is a piece of s**t in my opinion. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

Comment: Fan itself is nice, solid and the motor itself is quiet. The occilation mechanism occasionally squeaks a bit but I could probably drop some oil in it and clear that up. The speed indicator is a bit chinsy, but otherwise I like it a lot. Moves a good amount of air.
Amazon ships this in the original box (rather than double boxing) and the box was destroyed upon arrival. How the fan didn't have a scratch on it is a miracle. Be careful you don't loose the little set screw that attaches the blades. If you do use it you can get a set screw (metric...I think its an M3 or M4, I can check if you need) at any hardware store.
Update: I put a drop of bike chain lube on the moving screw joint part and the slight squeek that was occasionally present is now totally gone.

Summary: Great, solid fan with slight rattle
Comment: This is a very solid metal fan. It's quiet except for a slight rattle when oscillating (moving from left to right and back). I am very surprised and pleased with the amount of air it moves. Very powerful. There is assembly required, as it comes in four parts: (1) the fan base, (2) the blade, and (3) the two pieces of the protective cage. Although the instructions could be better (eg, which way to turn the blade on the shaft in order to screw it down; whether to leave the rubbser sleeve on the shaft), I found it very easy to assemble. You will need a screwdriver for one screw. As for the rattle, a normal person using it in a quiet room may or may not be bothered by it. As for me, I am able to sleep through some noise. The controls are levers, unlike modern day push buttons you'd find on new fans. I like this design. The cord is 5 1/2 feet, and I am able to put it on top of a tall chest. If not for the rattle, I'd give it 6 stars.
Update: The rattle got much worse for a day or two, to the point of not being able to use it at night. However, after a few days, the rattle disappeared.

Summary: Quiet not Silent
Comment: I bought this fan to use in our motorhome. It moves the air nicely without blowing everything all over the place. I can not stand noisey fans or air conditioners. Unless it is scorching hot this fan does a good job. It has a nice sturdy base and it looks nice too. Some fans are so noisey it makes sleeping difficult. This fan is quiet enough to leave on when sleeping. It also does not make a banging noise when it oscillates.
