Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product But Amazon Lies About List Price Comment: This is a great product, but Amazon's advertising leaves much to be desired. On April 6, 2008 at 10:45 pm, I clicked on Amazon Grocery's 70% off link. Playtex Tampons were included in the listing of items. At that time, Amazon listed the following information for this produce (and similar information for other Playtex tampon products): List Price: $55.94; Price: $15.12; You Save: $40.82 (73%) There is no way in the world that the list price for 18 tampons is $18.65 (i.e., $55.94 divided by 3). The list price is actually below $6.00. In fact, that same day the following retailers had an 18-ct box of the same Playtex product listed under $6.00: Peapod-$5.29; Safeway-$2.69 (sale price); Harris Teeter-$4.99; Wegmans-$4.29. Considering the regular prices (I excluded Safeway's sale price), the average retail price for an 18-ct box is $4.86. That's 74% less than Amazon's list price!!! More importantly, Amazon's price of $5.04 per 18-ct box (i.e., $15.12 divided by 3) is actually 4% HIGHER than the average retail price. Amazon out to be ashamed of itself. Making people think that they're saving 73% when they're actually paying 4% more than the average retail price is false advertising.
