Summary: A pretty good ending for a great series
Comment: Since several people follow my anime reviews often. I know some haven't seen this series. So for those purposes, I will not reveal any of the story. Those who seen the series already know the events concerning the Philosophers Stone and the fate of the brothers. This movie picks up after the ordeal and ties up loose ends.

Right off the back. Don't expect the same greatness from the series. Everything that made the series great, gets bumped down some. This movie is meant to finish everything. Character development is non existent. The new characters introduced are meant to fulfill small roles and they do just that. The battle scenes are good and thankfully aren't very short. The slow pace for the first 30 minutes or so pays off.

The only thing that got better was the animation. As if that could have been possible. The animation does surpass the tv series a bit. And the soundtrack is just as impressive.

Like End of Evangelion, this movie is not meant to be your introduction. There is no backstory, it's treated in a way that the viewer should know what is going on. I won't give hints on the ending except it does provide closure. If you liked the series, at the very least this should be rented. Overall, I would give this a 3.5.

Summary: Interesting continuation
Comment: This feature is a good way to get back in touch with the characters that made the FMA series amazing. It's interesting to see how they adapt to their changed lives. The Nazi storyline was very Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but still entertaining. Overall, this was a satisfactory follow-up, with the only real negatives being that the whole story felt extremely rushed, while some sequences dragged on.

Summary: Perfect ending to a great series
Comment: I am not into accidentally spoiling plots so will keep it brief. If you liked the Fullmetal Alchemist series, you will like this. It is a perfect ending with a bitter-sweet bite. The characers development continues, the story line flows perfectly from the series into the movie and Te is plenty of action. I believe you have to have watched to the series to make sense of this so do not try watching it as a stand-alone movie or it may confuse yuo and leave you a bit disappointed and thinking I am crazy, rating it so high. If you like Anime with a good story Watch the series, and have the Movie for dessert.

Summary: A Must-Have for any FMA Fan
Comment: I'm very glad that I chose to purchase the Limited Edition version of 'Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie - The Conqueror of Shamballa'. I only paid a few scant dollars more than I would have for just the DVD, but the little extras make it all worthwhile.

Fans of the anime will definitely appreciate the limited edition casing, the beautiful official art prints that arrive with the set, the book-within-a-book full of production notes and art concepts, and the extra DVD containing commentary with the English voice actors. I know I certainly did.

If you're looking to purchase this movie for yourself or someone else, please consider the limited edition--it's definitely worth the extra effort.

Editorial Reviews:

The Fullmetal Alchemist theatrical feature, The Conqueror of Shamballa, takes place two years after the last episode of the popular broadcast series. Edward Elric has been transported to Earth and is living in Weimar-era Munich with Alphonse Heiderich, a young engineer who reminds him of Al. This Alphonse is working for the Thule Society, a group of Aryan fanatics who hope to cross dimensions to the world they call Shambala and acquire weapons that will ensure a German victory in the next war. Back in the world where the broadcast series took place, a restored Alphonse Elric searches for a way to bring Ed back. A combination of science and alchemy finally reunites the brothers--with unexpected consequences. Although the film is an exciting adventure that includes many of the familiar characters, viewers who haven't watched the TV series may have trouble sorting out who's who and what's where. Sadly, The Conqueror of Shamballa marks the end of director Seiji Mizushima's and screenwriter Shou Aikawa's work with the Elric brothers: together, they preserved the essence of Hiromu Arakawa's winning characters while adapting them to a new medium. Arakawa is continuing the manga, so fans may one day see further animated adventures of Ed and Al.(Rated PG: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon
