Customer Rating: Summary: Do you like pain? Comment: Because you will feel some if you use this on your stuff.
The groomer comes with two detachable and switchable heads--a trimmer and a shaver. (The former has an adjustable guard which lets you trim to five different lengths.) If you've let things get away from you, the trimmer will do an OK job of mowing that down some. But to trim close enough for the shaver to even have a chance, you have to remove the trimmer guard.
Once I'd drawn enough blood with the unguarded trimmer, I switched to my Mach3, which did a decent-enough job smoothing things out.
Long story short, the shaver attachment is essentially useless, because you can never trim close enough without shredding your unmentionables for the shaver to have any effect.
My recommendation? Trim as close as you can WITH THE GUARD ON, and then finish up with your Mach3.
PS: Haven't tried it in the shower, but supposedly it will work wet.
Update (7/16/2008): It works quite well unguarded on neck hair. I trim that hair more often than I trim the hair farther down, so I have to say, the utility of this product has gone up for me. And I have washed it with dish-soap and water, and it still works, so that's another plus. I would up this groomer to three stars if I could, but Amazon won't let me.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good value for money Comment: I bought this for my husband and he really liked.According to him its a really good trimmmer and does a good job.The length adjustment feature is a plus.I would definitely recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: not only for body hair Comment: I use this as a shaver and it's a great price for a beard trimmer and shaver... there might be fancier ones out there but this is fine for me.
Customer Rating: Summary: pretty good Comment: Works well for beard trimming. Holds a charge. Easy to clean. Haven't tried shaving with it because I never shave.
Customer Rating: Summary: Quick Reliable Review Comment: I wanted to rate this product at least 4 stars, but just couldn't do it. This is an attractive-looking, but average performing product. I had another Remington model -- one of those multiple, trimmer accessory deals (the one with the nose hair clipper attachment) that finally had to be replaced because the rechargeable battery finally gave out after years of superior, reliable service. Sleek looks and waterproofing are not what I would consider "improvements" so I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed with the BHT-2000.
First of all, I have very thick, coarse, straight body hair. The BHT-2000 works great in this area, but when it comes to the more sensitive areas (yes, the crotch area), then the fun stops and the careful (time consuming) trimming/self-torture begins. The guard performs decently around the pubic area, but go any further and you are most likely going to remember your high school sweetheart and her braces and inexperience (please don't bite it!). The downside of the clipper's ability to handle thicker hair is that the teeth are rather large... I think 'nuff said here.
So, if you are looking to shear off your man-hair-sweater, this is probably a great bet for you... but if you're looking for more tedious applications, go with smaller teeth.
