Customer Rating: Summary: A loud but okay worker. Comment: While sketching, reading, or just kicking back there are few activities I doing simultaneously in my room dedicated just for the purpose. Smoking is one of them.
I purchased this Honeywell air purifier to help tackle the rather strong and unpleasant smell of my enjoyable, yet unhealthy and publicly scorned, habit.
How it works:
+ Air circulation is pleasant
+ On high the unit will get rid of the scent in about a half-hour.
+ On medium the unit will mostly get rid of the smell within about a half-hour.
+ On low the unit will mostly get rid of the smell of the last cigarette about two hours after I put it out.
+ Operation on medium produces tolerable levels of background noise.
+ Operation on low produces barely audible noise.
- Operation on high is as loud as a hand-held Dust Vac or hair dryer.
- Despite the increase in noise, there is no discernible difference in performance (I am a smoker so it could be the ol' tobacco)
- I don't know what the lightbulb button does other than wasting electricity by turning on a seemingly pointless LED which shines dully beneath the plastic cover.
- Ionizer makes an irritating electric popping sound.
Conclusion: The negatives are minor compared to the benefits and low cost of the unit which is why I rate 4/5
Customer Rating: Summary: A must for computer desk smokers Comment: I bought this for our desk, as we both are on the computer quite a bit. My husband has a website and spends lots of time there, and as a smoker, and also with a woodstove and 3 dogs, I was tired of washing the walls and windows in the winter.
It's saved my walls and windows, along with another larger unit in an opposite corner of our main room. Easy to clean and wash, no expense for filters like my 600.00 model (which is now in the bedroom and pretty much worthless). The noise on medium is certainly tolerable and not offensive in the least, and draws all smoke directly into the unit. Honeywell is certainly the best of all the units we've had, or experienced in our construction business.
Customer Rating: Summary: Better than I expected Comment: I got this model for my son's bedroom. It does a great job and is a nice source of white noise. We're planning on getting a larger model for our open spaces since my husband suffers from allergies.
Customer Rating: Summary: honeywell table top air purifier Comment: First one got lost in mail, Amazon was very quick to replace it with fast delivery. This is the 2nd one I have bought. Love it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Something Isn't Right Comment: I bought this air purifier for the name and size and the permanent filter aspect. It's a great size for my baby's room. The grill over the filter doesn't fit well and it isn't very quiet and kind of buzzy. I actually stopped using it in the baby's room after a few weeks due to an electrical smell that was coming from the unit. It's not the ionizer because I didn't use that feature. It's something coming from the motor. When I start the motor on low, it barely turns. I have to run it on high for a few minutes to "warm it up" so that it will spin at a decent rate on low. I feel that the smell is the motor windings heating up due to it straining from bad alignment or bearing or something. I definitely wouldn't recommend this unit due to these problems. From the other reviews, it sounds like this is not always a problem. It must just be a quality control problem.
I also bought the Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort. It truly is quite on low but it's a lot bigger. I managed to fit that in the tiny room. It works great. I can hardly hear it in the baby monitor. I do recommend this one if you can spare the room. Larger fans are naturally more quit anyway.
