Spotlight customer reviews:

Customer Rating: Summary: Mediocre at best Comment: After the excellent reviews I found on-line, I was very disappointed with the real-world performance of this headset after several weeks of use. The people with whom I talk regularly complain about background noise that "sounds like I'm at the ocean." The noise-cancelling feature does help somewhat, but everyone seems to dislike this unit. On my end, the sound is clear and loud. The second problem is the way the controls work. I don't know who designed the controls, but they are way too hard to use. The same button controls nearly everything, from turning on/off to making/ending calls to enabling the noise cancellation feature and much more. The user is expected to press and hold this button (which requires a lot of pressure) for varying lengths of time at varying points in the process to do different things. Way too complicated. This is my third Bluetooth headset, and the first one is still by far the best - the old Motorola unit with the mic on a little arm that swings out and turns the unit on and off. Everyone with whom I speak regularly really misses that unit, and universally agree that it had the best performance. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced.
Customer Rating: Summary: Love this headset! Comment: I love this headset! I forward my office line to my cell phone (blackberry) when I leave. People are surprised when I tell them that I am on my cell phone. They say it sounds like I am on my landline in my office. The fit is fabulous as is the sound! I purchased this headset after I purchased the jawbone. I returned the jawbone because it was to frustrating trying to figure out how to get it to stay on my ear. I didn't think I would find another headset with such clarity in the sound as the jawbone. I did! The Blueant Z9 sound is just as good as the jawbone. I highly recommend this headset!
Customer Rating: Summary: Poor audio quality Comment: I went from a Jawbone to the Z9 and continually received comments from the people I called of either an echo-phone booth quality, or a choppy quality when in max noise mode. I went back to the Jawbone and no problems. I understand they just released the Z9i. Maybe it resolved the problems, but I'm not going to buy one to find out. I'm sticking with the Jawbone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great headset, sound reception not what I expected Comment: Let me start by saying that BlueAnt Z9 is a very good headset. What is also very impressive is the support from both BlueAnt and Amazon.
I found it really intuitive to use. What is especially useful for me is the device switching feature: I pair it to both my iPhone and my laptop and often switch depending on whether I am talking through my IM or phone.
The good:
- Sound quality
- Noise cacellation
- Fit in the ear
- Sound volume
- User interface - especially switching between paired devices
The bad
- While people hear me pretty well, I always hear a faint crackling noise. I have been in touch with the wonderful BlueAnt tech support and Amazon returns and have the same problem with a replacement headset.
- You cannot change voice isolation levels before a call is connected. If you press the MFB to do this, the call gets disconnected. frankly I don't understand why the headset is not on max voice isolation all the time.
Despite the bad points I am still keeping this headset.
Customer Rating: Summary: Better than the Jawbone Comment: I purchased a Blueant Z9 Bluetooth Headset and a Jawbone headset approximately at the same time, and the BlueAnt Z9 is the winner of the two.
The Z9 fits my ear very good and goes on easily. The voice quality is very good also.
The Jawbone had really good voice quality as well, but it was very difficult to put on. When I did finally get on my ear, it felt loose and would nearly fall off if I leaned my head over to the side that I was wearing it on. I tried all the different ear loops and ear buds that it came with and none worked for me. That was the deciding factor.
I had the Plantronics Voyager 520 previously and I was very happy with it, but my dog decided to eat it...so I wanted to try another headset this time. I might buy another Plantronics 520 in the future so I can have a spare headset in the house.
