Customer Rating: Summary: countrygal Comment: Upon receiving my CD for this recipe finder, I was surprised there was no instruction booklet to go with it. The only directions are on the CD itself, which are not too hard to follow. I guess this is how old-fashioned I am.
If anyone is a typist, you can follow the instructions quite well and figure out what to click on to get around. Anyone who is not familiar with a writing software (Word or Wordpro), may have trouble knowing how to move around in the program.
The very first thing I did after installing the CD was to accidentally remove all of the recipes already on it (about 25 come with the CD). There is a button to remove them, but I thought it was only one recipe at at time (that is a another button). It scared me thinking I paid this much for a blank form, but there is a button to restore all the recipes. That was a relief.
Overall, it is a rather simple program to use. I now have over 450 recipes entered. I like the fact that I can go to one place now and pull up all of my favorite recipes to see what to fix for dinner and not have to search each cookbook to find my favorite ones.
It allows me to enter Tablespoons and teaspoons automatically without retyping each measurement each time. In fact, all of the measurements are already listed. All I have to do is click on the one I need and continue typing the ingredients.
This program allows me to set up a new type of recipe if needed; such as adding Fish/Seafood for tuna, shrimp or fish recipes. That is great. Instead of everything going under the entree type, I added new ones like beef, poultry, pasta, grains, salads/dressings, cakes/frostings and Tips. It's just like you would find in a regular cookbook.
I have not tried to print out a recipe yet, but that is also available on this CD. I read the reviews before purchasing, and if need be, I feel confident that customer service would help me there.
This is a great CD if you need to organize your recipes to one location like I did. I have several cookbooks (about 20+) that I like to use. One cookbook has my favorite cornbread, pancake, biscuit recipes. Another has my favorite casserole recipes in it; another desserts, etc. So, now I can go to one location and look up what to fix for supper and have dessert to go with it and not look up each cookbook. That saves me lots of time. Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about trying to organize their recipes. It is great.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very few features Comment: My decision to purchase Matilda's recipe software was based primarily on the excellent reviews that the software received on Amazon and the fact that it is compatible with Vista. However, upon installing it I realized that it does NOT have any of the basic features that I need, such as the ability to generate a list of my recipes, the ability to filter the list, and the ability to search by ingredients, recipe title, etc. Fortunately, the company has a 120% satisfaction guaranteed refund and so I was able to return it without even losing the cost of postage.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Perfect Recipe Software Comment: I am creating a family cookbook, and I have found this software to be exactly what I was looking for! I started with recipes from parents and grandparents, but I am having just as much fun getting recipes from my kids. My sister and I are putting this book together to give to our children this Christmas, and I am sure it will be a hit.
The software is very easy to use, yet it allows for many creative options. One of the neatest options is the ability to include pictures with each recipe. I have retrieved old pictures, going back several generations, and combined them with pictures taken just last week with the newest addition to the family. There is always room (as much as you need or want) to include stories that relate to each recipe. The cookbook then becomes a family history in recipes.
Another really important feature is that you keep the data on your own computer. That allows you to make changes if you need to (no matter how many times you proofread, someone will always find a mistake somewhere.) You can then rerun a page whenever needed. You can also add to the cookbook anytime a new family favorite recipe pops up.
The website for this software also has many ideas and examples. A really nice feature is a blog for questions and ideas. The creators of this software will respond to your questions and concerns quickly, and I really appreciated that!
I highly recommend this software!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointed!!!! Comment: It was just a total disappointment. First of all, it didn't even come with any sort of plastic sleeve which made me feel like I had just purchased a bootlegged copy of something. Which by the way would of been about 1/6 of the cost. The choices for the layouts were nominal. There were no instuctions. It was filled with Matilda's recipes which duplicate, triplicate...at a touch of a button. The program on my vista laptop under Taskmanager was just as good. And it was free!!!! Does anyone review these products at Amazon?????
Customer Rating: Summary: ease of use? - TERRIFIC Comment: First of all, I love this product! My hubby gave it to me for Christmas, and I am having a great time playing with it.
My usual method of keeping up with my recipes was keying into a word processing program, printing them out and placing in a three-ring binder in sheet protectors (to keep them clean!). I was looking for something to key into, and maybe compile them into a cookbook for others to use, and this seems to fit the bill! With this software, I can print individual recipes for my binder as I go, and still have the recipes together for use later. Nifty, huh?
And it's so simple to use, no complicated ingredient lists, etc. I am using "cut and paste" to move my recipes from the word processing program to this program; very simple, and quick too! I can also pick up new recipes from the internet using the same method. Once I paste, then I can clean up the formatting to suit myself. Easy, easy, EASY!
I like the section for "authors" of the recipes. A short biography of each person is entered, then you can "give credit where credit is due" for those wonderful recipes that have passed down through the generations. Also, the "types" (i.e., dessert, main dish, etc.) of recipes can be selected anyway I want them, then changed later if I need to expand or delete.
They have a message board, for general chit-chat as well as where problems are addressed. Also, suggestions are accepted from users to help upgrade future editions to better meet the needs of the end-users. Great suggestions are being offered, and it really makes me feel like they are trying their best to make a good product better!
If you are looking for an easy "electronic" recipe box, this may be just the product for you. I know it's working for me!
