Summary: Buy it. Eros Never disappoints
Comment: I "tripped" over Eros 6 years ago on a duet with Bocelli on "Sogno" CD which I still think is one of my favorite Eros songs. I buy everything he comes out with and he's always experimenting with mixes of his songs with different artists. Most are well known and respected outside the US, but we US music snobs feel that the only good music is invented here.
I wouldn't buy this as your first Eros CD if you don't own any of his previous discs (Personally "9" is one disc I think always sounds fresh and edgy). There are a few duds on this, but overall it's worth adding to your Eros collection.

Summary: 3.5 For A Mixed Bag
Comment: First things first: I'm a fan. "Calma Apparente" (I discovered last year) was in heavy rotation for MANY months. A great way to discover European pop. 4.5 stars for that CD.

Musical Perspective: I like everything from ABBA to Linkin Park and Vince Gill.

E2: This is a two-CD collection and after listening to the first, I quickly realized that disc one was a train wreck. Almost un-listenable. Specifically, the old "classic Eros" stuff was to blame. I could actually taste the cheese in my mouth as I listened to it; think of late 80s synth-pop in I-talian. I was able to quickly assess that I'd never listen to it again (less some exceptions--the more recent tracks/productions)

Thankfully the second disc makes a spectacular recovery thus saving it from being the poster-child of "Christmas Gift Failures". There are at least two tracks that warrant the coveted "pop perfection" rating and thusly save the entire collection. "Fuoco Nel Fuoco" (a Santana duet that sounds like many other Santana duets--but it works for every second of the track). Likewise, "Più Bella Cosa" is magical if you love pop and aren't afraid of a little production.

There are certainly more many good songs on disc two, but those two really work...too bad I have no idea what the @#!$# he's saying.

That said, the symphony sessions flirt with being over-dramatic. It kinda feels like..."well, I paid for the band and a composer, let's get the most out them"

All said and done, it's a fine collection--even if it is a bit uneven.

Summary: Fresh new sound and old versions of his classic songs in one package
Comment: I am an Eros fan myself. I loved the inedit new songs and the revisited new versions of his previous hits sounded fresh and interesting. I just do not think that it is fair that they made me pay for a two CD set. Almost all of the songs of one of the CDs were the same old versions of the classic eros songs I have been listening to for years.

I think that Eros need to think on realising brand new material and not try to resell the same music to the people that have been his followers since he started.

Summary: Trust Your Ears
Comment: Unlike the Pet Shop Boys' recent live album "Concrete", the orchestral versions on this release don't really do much for Eros Ramazzotti, who is way more accomplished than even his stellar European career suggests. Why does this major singer pair with such minor artists? Apart from the kitschy orchestrations of "Musica E" and "Adesso Tu" on disc B, though, some of the new guitar tracks are inspired, adding another layer to favorites. The real find here is the first two songs on disc A: First we get mature Eros overpowering the middling Ricky Martin with practiced technique and pure energy on "Non Siamo Soli", and then the classic early song, "Terra Promessa", in which a young Eros is just discovering his talent, making up for experience with astonishing conviction and sincerity. 23 years have passed in the meantime, and the timewarp is palpable, beautiful, and not to missed. Trust your ears on this one, especially if you're new to his music.

Editorial Reviews:

International two CD pressing of this 2007 compilation from the Italian superstar features a bonus CD containing an additional 18 tracks including remixes, re-recordings, hits and duets. Disc One features 19 of his biggest hits including four new tracks and original and updated versions of old favorites. Because he records his albums in both Italian and Latin, Ramazzotti has managed to maintain his enormous fanbase in Europe and Latin-speaking countries for more than two decades. From Pop to Rock, he leaves not stone unturned as he continues to dominate the charts with Pop and Rock that is as intelligent as it is melodic. Features duets with Ricky Martin, Tina Turner, Carlos Santana, The Chieftains and others. 37 tracks total. Sony/BMG.
