Summary: Better than average bootleg.
Comment: This is basically a compressed copy of Pioneer's 8 DVD release. Don't shy away now. Pioneer (Geneon) was known for overkill on it's number of DVDs released per boxed set. 5 or 6 would have been just fine, but Pioneer loved your money. I use the past tense because Geneon is now defunct. They found out the hard way that people will buy from the cheaper suppliers as long as the quality is acceptable.

This is an FX bootleg. (In the world of bootleggers they are usually considered the best) I took away one star simply because this is a bootleg.

I bought this, not knowing it was a bootleg, back in '04. (Before bootlegs were separated from official releases on Amazon.) I should have known, going by it's price. But in the end I can say I was still satisfied. I've watched this set through about 10 times. I have noticed very little degradation of visual and audio quality. It also has some of the extras from the Pioneer release.

Do I condone bootlegging? No. Do I condone price gouging for an official boxed set? No. When no perfect choices are left to you... what do you do? Well if you have $150+ to burn on a single boxed set, go get the real one. It's an amazing addition to any anime collection. But if you're a regular person, with a regular budget, I would suggest giving this one consideration.

Summary: Not the real thing
Comment: I've little to add other than what has been said; the people I bought it from made it sound like a good deal; how disappointed I was when I found out it was bootleg. Not only that, but the subtitles suffer as well. I got halfway through an episode when suddenly I was looking at symbols instead of words. There are other times when subtitle spacing is not there "Ifwecan" instead of "if we can" and the menus in the later disk look like I could make them at home. This is not the real thing, and just be aware of that if you should buy it.

Summary: Buyers Beware
Comment: Just as the first reviewer stated. The animation is of poor quality. It gets distortions and complete lockups. After researching various places; the comments left by two people in response to the first review are correct. This is poor bootleg crap. I'm in the middle of fixing this with my purchase as I didn't properly research before purchasing.

Summary: Probably the worst Boxset ever
Comment: I say this is the worst boxset ever because it has terrible quality. Yes, it does have all of the episodes but good luck enjoying them. I got this on christmas day and put it in my DVD player. Each disk contains about 9 episodes which may or may not be the cause of the problem here, quality. Watching the episodes you'll notice color disortion and issues with the animation that would seem like theres something wrong with your DVD player - but, no, it's the DVD. The animation seems fuzzed. Also while watching, with not stoping of the episode, you might be taken back for a frame or two. It's not the players fault, i played this on multiple players and the problems still occured.
Maybe the problem is that the DVD is cramed with eps and so the animation suffers. However the sound doesnt, but that doesnt make up for the pure crapyness that is this boxset. It's not bootleg either, just poorly made. This is a nightmare for Trigun and anime fans in general. DO NOT BUY THIS!
