Summary: Further from objective reality
Comment: Stargate SG-1 the next generation...
I read somewhere that those people who create psychotic fantasy worlds
get further and further from the here and now as
they get more involved in the psychosis.
True science fiction is about making predictions about the future
that may prevent technology from overpowering humanity.
Star Trek the nth generation and SG-1 by moving into religion
and other galaxies and further from actual hard science have become 'fantasy' like dungeons and dragons with science that is
more in the realm of 'magic' than reality.
It was a pretty adventure, but we feel they are never really in
danger as 'good' always prevails in this sort of 'B'
sci fi series.

Summary: A disappointing end to a great series
Comment: My wife and I rented this movie because we just could not slog through all of the Ori episodes of SG1, but wanted to see how they could possibly end the battle against the Ori.
See, the good thing about SG1 pre-Ori, was that all the characters had personality - even the bad old Goa'uld. When they introduced the Ori, all that ended. The Goa'uld you loved to hate. The Ori you could only hate.
Everything in this movie seemed rushed and disjointed. The ending was hokey. The movie was filled with scenes that were reminiscent of scenes from pre-Ori episodes.
I have to wonder why Christoper Judge was even in the movie. Did he speak two complete sentences in the entire movie, other than to try to make "Tommy" not feel so despairing over his past?
Vala's Ori daughter added almost nothing to the movie - her petulant pouting and posturing not withstanding.
We were glad to see, finally, an ancient actually take responsibility and bust the chops of the Ori.
The way the movie ended, they left it open for future SG1 movies. From what I've read of Continuum, though, there seems to be nothing original they can do to return to the glory days of SG1.
I give it three stars only because I was so glad to see the end of the Ori.

Summary: Mini Season 11 is a Pleaser!
Comment: This two-hour conclusion of the Ori storyline (which would have been drawn out into Season 11 had the show not been canceled) was well-written, well-developed and well-done! While all Stargate fans would have preferred an actual Season 11, at least we can now rest easy knowing how the Ori threat was ultimately handled. While the cast was quickly broken into separate groups, the movie wasn't at all choppy and moved well between the different storylines. A must-have for all Stargate SG-1 fans.

Comment: WOW. What a great movie. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for the whole thing. As always, you did not know how they were going to save the Galaxy, again. Wish the TV Series had went another year or two to give Ben Browder and Claudia Black some more time in the series since "Far Scape". Which was a also a great show. But if you have to end it. They did an excellent job in doing it. Looking forward to "Continumum". When the team time travels and mess all the time lines up. Really looking forward to see how they will fix that mess.

Fans disappointed by the demise of the Stargate SG-1 television series after ten fruitful seasons will delight in The Ark of Truth, the first full-length movie to follow in the show's wake. In fact, some will be more than pleased--they'll be relieved. For not only does the 102-minute film offer an opportunity to enjoy the same likable characters, reliable effects work, superior writing, and other elements that made the series so appealing, but after season upon season in which viewers were left wondering how everything turned out, The Ark finally brings at least one cliffhanger to a conclusion: the storyline involving the villains known as the Ori, who dominated SG-1's final two years. Our heroes (including Ben Browder as fearless leader Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Amanda Tapping as the intrepid Lt. Col. Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as the implacable alien Teal'c, Michael Shanks as the ever-resourceful Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Claudia Black as the irreverent Vala) have long known that the Ori are perhaps the most irresistible force they've ever encountered, in part because they are "ascended" beings who don't exist in recognizable physical form (their spaceships do, and they're huge). But now the team faces an even greater threat: the Ori have set their sights on good ol' Planet Earth. That's where the Ark comes in; if the good guys can just get their hands on it, they hope this ancient artifact will effectively put the big, bad Ori, their minions, and their entire religion (known as "Origin") out of business. Of course, it ain't easy. Both collectively and individually, the team will be severely tested, their task complicated not only by the Ori but by an arrogant, clueless government official whose meddling results in the return of the metallic, insect-like Replicators. There's little doubt about how it will all turn out--after all, there's at least one more movie already in the pipeline--but it's all about the ride, and despite a few flaws (as was sometimes the case with the series, the script leans a bit too hard on exposition and techno babble), this one is lots of fun. Bonus features include commentary by writer-director Robert Cooper and others, a lengthy "making of," and a helpful "prelude" to bring the uninitiated up to speed. --Sam Graham
