Comment: I purchased this set from DEFEO with some trepidation. It didn't seem to be an "authorized" set produced from a professional video transfer company but the reasonable price for 80 episodes prompted me to purchase a set and take a chance.
Defeo sent the set very quickly. I was then astounded to find that the image and sound for each of the episodes was exceptional - in fact, superior to sets I had purchased for "Father Knows Best" and "Ozzie and Harriet" produced by well known companies. Each "Rifleman" episode is uncut. I was so happy with the product's quality that I purchased a second set for my brother who was a big fan when he was younger.
I can highly recommend purchasing this "Mega Pack". Sometimes you do receive far more than you paid for.

Summary: Great Find
Comment: I had put off purchasing this set for over a year until just recently, and I have to say so far after seeing the first 5 episodes ,I am thrilled. The picture quality and sound quality are execellent considering the year this series came out. I am re-living my early teen years with this great show. Without a doubt, T.V was far better in the 50s 60s and even most of the 70s. The only negative I have seen so far is that the sound at times seems to be a bit off by about a second. Other then that it's worth getting, especially if you a a great fan of T.V back in the day, especially westerns.

Summary: Much better writing than I remembered!
Comment: I got this on a whim and admit now just how far I underrated its quality. The early episodes from this series featured first-rate writing on a surprisingly thoughtful recurring theme: a father teaching his son how to live a useful, ethical life in an unsafe world. Suitable for all ages, but older farts like me will probably appreciate it more.
The series also features a fine selection of character actors and future headliners -- even Chuck Connors turned out to be well-fitted in his role. The set I bought consisted of burned DVD-R disks, but the playback qualities were fine and I can't complain about the bargain price.

Summary: Great Retro TV western
Comment: This is a great set of 80 episodes of the Rifleman, although it does not have a special feature included as is noted on Amazon's advertisement blurb. Even so, it is truly an enjoyable blast from the past, and I am not sorry I purchased the set. I do have to agree that it seems as if whomever made the selection of episodes simply played, eeny, meeny, minny moe. . . which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't include a young boy who grew and shrunk from episode to episode along with a couple of general store ladies, one of whom was a McCain interest, and then a female hotel owner who really didn't come along until, I believe, the last year of production. Not to be discouraged, I stayed with all 80 chapters until they were finished.
As to the quality of the features, they are on the up side of OK. I probably would say they are truly wonderful if I didn't compare them to the re-mastered Autry films which are a REALLY sharp and vibrant black and white on my HD TV.. Also, in my Rifleman set, one of the episodes has a slight audio to video lapse------just enough to be annoying, But since no one else has mentioned this problem, I am assuming my set just happened to include a disk with one defective episode. Having said all of that, I look forward to purchasing more of the boxed sets. I just need to do some research so that I don't duplicate those I already have. :-))
