Customer Rating: Summary: Not a hardcore In Flames fan. I thought it was one of their best Comment: I first got drawn in to In Flames by "The Quiet Place" on MTV2 and "Soundtrack to your Escape". Honestly, I could definitely agree with fans who thought Soundtrack to your Escape was a weak album compared to their older work, as I then got into Clay Man, Colony, and Reroute to Remain.
However, I was never a hardcore fan of the band. They were only average to me, as the case seemed to be that their albums were all hit and miss, with the hits being some of the best and most gloriously well-written, played, and beautiful metal songs I've ever heard, and the majority of the rest of the album being bland, generic filler. For albums like "Reroute to Remain", the hit to miss ratio was at its best; roughly 1 to 1---one hit for every miss.
A Sense of Purpose is the first In Flames in which every song is a hit to me. Rather than going all-out on a few songs and including filler for the rest, it sounds as if special care and work were put into every track, and even though some tracks may sound similar, or even identical to one another, they are all phenomenal and beautiful, though clearly of a different style than the In Flames of old.
Quite honestly, however, this album isn't very memorable---I can listen to it many times for a period, then completely forget about it for months at a time before returning to it, I can't identify any of the tracks by name, and I can't put any coherency into Anders' lyrics. But it all just sounds great. No individual song is better than some of the hits from previous In Flames albums, but all together, this is one of the best In Flames albums this casual fan has ever heard.
Customer Rating: Summary: geez!!! Comment: What should I say about this? It was just too amazing. I loved it! All these songs were written carefully and well. A great album, one of the best I have heard.
Customer Rating: Summary: listen closer Comment: i think everyone just needs to understand that every band out there is always going to grow and change their style around and try different things and if you want a band to make the same sound over an over again on every album dont u think thats gunna get old , and then your gunna write comments like " gee this sounds just like the last album" and then youll complain about that , all in all no one is ever going to stay happy with their favorite band , because the mind that people possess ...and you cant please everyone so a band will write music to how they feel and what music naturally comes out of them , its when u try to force a specific sound out that the album gets ruined , and personally i was questionable about this cd but the more i listen to it the more i respect what they have done , just like all their cds from the beginning till now , they are all great peices of work from a band that is highly respectible as musicians...
Customer Rating: Summary: in flames is the best Comment: Of course they don't sound the same of the old inflames like Cayman ext but that's what great bands do they evolve their sounds and create new music and new sounds in every new cd.
Customer Rating: Summary: WELL.......... Comment: of course it doesn't sound like the other stuff and screw that guy that said they stop playing death metal a looooong time ago "have you heard come clarity" you can't honeslty say some songs aren't melodic death metal right.I heard this band has had the stupid nu metal thing going on but i haven't heard it and as for this one THERE'S NO NU METAL" it just sounds like proggresive metal, alternative metal, metalcore and probably still some melodic death metal, well that's what it says.In this one there's not that much screaming and the great powerful growling just your usual singing.Trust me if he prefers singing than he CAN sing but i prefer the screams.Don't get it if you like it fast and brutal not a big fan of in flames but i like some of their previous stuff and as for this not as good,3.7. the real rating cause i can still enjoy it i guess.OH MY GOD,I HEARD THE SONG "TAKE THIS LIFE" IS IN THAT STUPID GAME "GUITAR HERO"I HATE THAT GAME IT KILLS MANY HEAVY SONGS!
