Summary: Very Good Easy to Use Video Playing Software
Comment: A couple years ago Corel bought InterVideo $196,000,000. That's a lotta zeros. Will the investment pay off in 2008, well if WinDVD 9 plus Blu-ray is any indication of what they're going to do with the InterVideo's software, I'd say yes.

Even though your PC comes with a video player, WinDVD 9 plus Blu-ray comes with some great extras you're not going to get otherwise. Like support for Blu-ray movies. They're starting to make laptops with Blu-ray drives, I don't have one yet, but WinDVD 9 plays back your standard DVDs, making them look almost like high def. If you're watching a fast-paced action film, you might not appreciate this so much, but if you're watching anything else, you're going to be amazed.

And one thing they've added to their software that you won't find anywhere else is Smart Stretch. Let's say you're on a plane, the flight's almost over, you're going to land before the movie's finished. With Smart Stretch you can speed up both the audio and video just enough to see the end. Sound hokey, well, maybe a little, but really, would you ever go back to the last five minutes of a movie otherwise?

And it goes without saying that this software supports AVCHD, so you won't have any problems playing back video you've recorded on your camcorder and it also has virtual surround sound that even works if you're using headphones. What more could you ask?

So again, do I think Corel got their moneys worth with all those zeros? Yeah, I think they made a good investment. They bought a good program and made it better.

Summary: Great little DVD player
Comment: Let me get something straight...you can't physically watch a Blu-Ray DVD without actually owning a Blu-Ray player...i've tried already. It was wishful thinking. For a regular DVD, this is such a great player. Better than the default Windows in terms of appearance and the DVD looks better too. It also plays CDs.
Only thing missing is the ability to save picture snapshots of what you're seeing.

Summary: A Welcome Addition to My Hard Drive
Comment: My computer is fairly new, but not new enough apparently, because I don't have a Blu-ray player. My sister does though and she has this software installed on it, so I was able to see a Blu-ray movie played through WinDVD 9 and it was really clear, really neat, so neat than I'm thinking about upgrading my machine and it's not even a year old.

Back to my computer. I installed the software, no problem. The interface is very intuitive and navigation is very easy. Others have said they like the slider control and I'll second that. Others have said they like the way regular DVDs look so much better and I'll second that too, they really do.

I don't have a video camera, so I can't comment on how this software handles those kinds of videos, but according to everything I've read, it seems to handle them just fine. I actually watch a lot of movies on my computer, so this software is a welcome addition to my hard drive.

Summary: If You Want To Watch HD or Blu-Ray Movies On Your Computer
Comment: Our PC has XP and DVD player, so I thought I'd like to try the Corel WinDVD9 Plus Blu-Ray playback software to enhance our viewing experience. It was simple to install: just insert the disc and follow the easy commands. We activated our speakers as well by following how-to instruction in the accompanying 76-page user guide.

We like it so far! One cool thing is being able to fast forward the DVD, while still hearing the dialogue. That's something we haven't had before. And I have to add that our standard DVDs look like high-definition, or higher-definition movies then they were before we installed this player software.

There's a neat thing called "Time Stretch" that increases audio and video playback speed, and that's really cool. (In case you can't wait for the ending - you won't have to!) And some of these features are just made for home movies. (Fast forward through the dull parts).

I have to admit I'm not a technical junkie, and we're still playing around with the features on this software. Our computer is new and does not have a lot of running programs on it yet. (Our old computer might have crashed and burned with this).

So if you have a computer with DVD player and want to watch HD or Blu-Ray discs, get the software. Of course, any laptop with a DVD player will do, as well as a portable DVD player, but this is, of course, for those people who really enjoy their movies and want the best picture and sound quality possible, with the convenience of having it on their pc or laptop computer. And for that, it works.

Summary: Blu-ray Movies on the Mac, it's Possible
Comment: I have an Intel Mac with gobs of ram and run Vista through Boot Camp. I usually watch my DVDs via Apple's DVD player, have never used Window's Media Player. However, I have a Blu-ray player hooked up to my TV and thought I'd like one for my Mac as well. Well, if you wanna watch Blu-ray movies on your Mac you gotta -- wait, you can't.

So what to do, what to do? You boot in Vista and get WinDVD 9 plus Blu-ray, that's what you do. Well, it's not exactly that easy, you need a Blu-ray drive, preferably a recordable one. I checked on Amazon and they had a Lacie Blu-ray drive for a whole gang of money, over six hundred bucks, way to much, heck I'll keep watching 'em on my big TV. But not to be deterred, I went to Lacie's website and found the same deal, six hundred bucks. Not only is that a lot of money, but I wasn't sure they'd even play Blu-ray movies. I couldn't tell from their website, but it looks like not, looks like Mr. Jobs and Co. don't want me watching movies on their hardware.

So I went looking and found a Pioneer Blu-ray player that will work. Didn't come with the cable I needed, but that was okay, I got one at my local computer store. Yes the Pioneer was a hundred and seventy-five smackers. Still more than I wanted to spend, but now I can watch (but not write) Blu-ray movies on my Mac. Well, if I boot into Vista.

Okay, I've got all the hardware, got the ram, got it all, so I installed the software and that went well, easy peasy. The graphite interface I like. If you're a Mac person you definitely won't be offended. Movies are wonderful, both Blu-ray and not.

I like the controls on this video player, definitely better than the Mac's vanilla player for navigating around in a movie. I wish they made this software for the Mac, that would be so cool, but they don't, so you take what you can get. However, I'm betting Steve Jobs is looking over this app right now and I'm betting he's gonna come up with something real soon just as good. Maybe, but if he doesn't, it's okay, because I can watch Blu-ray movies on my Mac whether he approves or not.
