Summary: A Welcomed Surprise
Comment: I've been a King's X fan since "Out of the Silent Planet" release. However, the releases since "Tape Head" have really disappointed me and after "Ogre Tones", I had decided that I wasn't going to purchase any more King's X releases.

Well, I happened to see this new release came out and sampled it online and immediately bought it. This is a very good release!! This is the King's X I used to love so much. I loved most of these songs on the very first hearing. This is such a welcomed surprise - coming back to the sound that put them on the map and making it current and fresh sounding. Kudos guys - absolutely fantastic release!!

Summary: Best King's X yet!
Comment: I have been a huge King's X fan from their beginning and I've seen them live six or seven times over the years. Every once in a (great) while I am mildly disappointed with a new release from this trio, most likely due to the tremendous expectations with which I await each new bone thrown to me from this exceptional group of musicians. This time around, however, I am truly ecstatic. In my opinion, this is THE BEST (if not at least one of the best) King's X albums/CD ever released. Each and every song is a heavy, melody-laden jam. I am a big fan of some of their more progressive and complex tunes - like those from their early "Out Of The Silent Planet" album - but I am especially fond of hard-rocking, hook-heavy fist-pumpers like "King". This CD contains my new 'favorite King's X song': "Move". On my first listen through this CD, filled with one awesome tune after another, I stalled out at track #9, "Move", and couldn't 'move' on until I had played it eight (or was it 9?) times in a row. This is one of the most memorable choruses I have ever heard...from anyone! The lyrics hold their own as well (all of the lyrics do). I was mainly into 'Christian Rock' when this group first started and I've seen some major changes in their attitudes toward God, 'The Church' and some so-called Christians. I've chatted with all three of these guys several times after their concerts (they are/were very accessible) and I know what they - especially Dug - have been treated like by some self-proclaimed 'brothers'. This song sums up quite adequately their response to some of the teaching of the Christian Church. This is another CD filled with honest commentary from three still-searching/questioning talented modern-day troubadors. (For even more joy, check out the latest solo releases from Ty Tabor and Dug Pinnick. Both are terrific!)...JOSEPH DAVID LUCCI.

Summary: A Worthy Successor to Ogre Tones
Comment: Seems like many reviewers are comparing XV to previous albums and whatever they liked best about some era of King's X's evolution, and that is to be expected--everyone has their favorites. But this album is its own beast, full of hope and pain and love and angst, and it just is what it is because these guys are where they are right now in their journey. It is brutal and tender and irreverent and desperately hopeful all at once. It is fresh and honest and still moving toward somewhere they have yet to realize, and who could ask for more? This band has been together for 25 years and continues to develop and change and be painfully relevant with every release. Yup, the old days are gone, Gretchen has lived and died in Nebraska, and the Silent Planet is way off the radar. Get over it. Ogre Tones was amazing, and XV is a worthy successor. Crank this one WAY up.

Summary: Yet Another Valiant Effort
Comment: As a long time King's X fan I always look forward to their next release with impatience. As always a finely crafted effort with something for every listener. Happy, Sad, Dark, Tongue in Cheek and Balls to the Walls! Love the vocals and harmony's and instrumental work although I personaly could use more epic guitar solo's from Ty I am pleased at yet another valiant effort from America's most crimminaly neglected band!!! Long Live King's X!!!

Editorial Reviews:

As a music consumer you ve got to be extremely cautious with a term such as cult band . It is often used to describe acts who are commercially unsuccessful or by groups trying to disguise their musical inabilities. With all due respect, this is certainly not the case with King s X. Doug Pinnick (vocals, bass), Jerry Gaskill (drums) and Ty Tabor (guitars) are consummate professionals who enjoy a brilliant reputation amongst fans, media and their peers. King s X s status as a cult band stems from their long time significance on the international rock scene as an all encompassing, fresh and innovative band. Their brand new album XV again proves to be a classic example of intelligent, varied and imaginative rock, on which they combine flawless skills, great compositions and superb production. Produced by sound maestro Michael Wagener in Nashville, Tennessee, the Texan power trio have produced one of the best albums of their successful career. And that is saying something!
