Summary: Like a Fine Wine.....
Comment: I am a long time devotee of Phil Perry, but was put off, sometimes, by the gymnastics he used 2 use. Gone is that tendency! Now, he's pure magic 2 listen 2. If u like supa smooth jazz voices,(i.e.Luther, Will Downing, etc), check him out. He's a well kept secret, but not here in Detroit. We know.

Comment: I`ve been a fan of Phil Perrys music for a while and each cd seems better than the last. I thought nothing could top his cd "MAGIC" well I was wrong. Ready for love is a well rounded cd of love, mood and feel good music. Its a disc that is wonderful background music for diner parties,music that will make people say "who is that",music that can put MEN in the mood to romance thier women. I strongly suggest you buy this disc and Magic too.There are only a few artist that really produce great music and phil Perry is one of them.

Summary: Smooth and Beautiful Sounding Soul Music.
Comment: Phil Perry is back with some of the most beautiful and smooth sounding soul music of 2008. Many of the compositions are originals with Phil borrowing two compositions from James Taylor (Shower the People) and Burt Bacharach (Walk on By). In my opinion he easily improves both compositions making them his own. The original compositions on this CD are also quite good and memorable. This CD represents a stellar production featuring great instruments where even a Hammond B organ and a harmonica can be heard. Also lending a hand is Kim Waters on sax, and he sounds better than ever although he does sound like Ronnie Laws on some compositions. The recording quality is an absolute standout and credit should be given to the producer and arranger as Phil's voice sounds perfectly balanced and mixed with the instruments. I have never heard Phil Perry's inimitable voice as clear as he sounds on this release. Amazon's review states Phil has hit a "slam dunk" with this CD. Its true, in fact, its a home run, touchdown and a knock out. This is the best soul oriented music I have listened to in quite a while. If Shanacie records keep turning out releases like this, they will become the new Motown, Philadelphia International and Stax Records of our time. This is the best Phil Perry CD and surpasses his "Classic Love Songs" release of 2006. Get this at all cost.

Comment: The "Pavarotti of Jazz," as Downbeat Magazine described him, Phil Perry has outdone himself once again... not an easy task after his acclaimed 2007 release A MIGHTY LOVE garnered him "Male Vocalist of the Year" honors in the Soultracks.com 3rd Annual Readers Choice poll. Mr. Perry's newest release, READY FOR LOVE, is masterful and I can't imagine it being anything short of a smash hit album. One listen to the first radio single, "Desire," seals the deal... and that's but one of eight passionate, romantic, soulful Phil Perry originals and two killer covers (James Taylor's "Shower the People" and the Bacharach-David classic "Walk on By") that he knocks out of the park. Oh, and if a wedding is in your future, "The Strings of Love" absolutely needs to be on your song list! READY FOR LOVE has just the right balance of Old School familiarity and new century freshness to be totally captivating, and that signature Phil Perry voice is still hitting 4 to 5 octaves after 40 years of performing... it continues to be nothing short of breathtaking!
