I'm talking something outside the norm here. Something you could not explain, or dare not admit to?

I chose "no" because of your 'outside of the norm' restriction. My religious experiences are just a feeling of oneness, though the first few times it happened seemed extraordinary. I tried to explain it to my minister, the feeling that God was in me and I was part of God; he immediately asked "were you on drugs?" Of course, I said yes, it was LSD and mescaline that brought on these "holy ghost" experiences. He told me he had never had any.
Now I can become om, no drugs required, but it's more a way of being than the 'confrontation with other' you are asking about. I hope you get lots of replies.

I'm waiting for other people to respond before I weigh in...if I decide to....which i'm wary of doing. maybe this kind of thing is meant to STAY private.

I understand the privacy issue. Nothing is more personal than this. And, since you're the only one experiencing it, it's very difficult to relate to anybody else, as there is no common frame of reference.

I'm not so worried about the blind...it's the blind and ignorant ;)
It's something beyond description anyway

I've spoken with ONE person on this board about this subject. i hope that person continues to respect my privacy. It was intended for that person only.

no kidding, i've shared some stuff with folks here i hope isn't broadcast as well. i guess it's odd how much we come to trust some of the folks whom we've met only via their opinions on a computer screen; however, i think that i truly do consider the people here to be one of my groups, a family, in a disfunctionaly hilarious yet serious sorta way.
eh, there i go ramblin again.:)
hmmm... perhaps you, therefore, could vote for the middle option?
DMann
05-02-2004, 03:12 AM
well....i trust you cp.
there a few people here. maybe Oli....and green lantern. But i don't agree with green or you politically...at all....it really doesn't make sense. green is a red sox fan. i should despise him immediately,. you are a republican and a christian...***? am i nuts?
hmmmm. i guess, for now, you three have been the only one's that have tried to really be my friend. I like Duo. But, I think he'd turn on me in a millisecond.
I forgot my girl Michelle. she's always cool.

michele is one of a kind:D
i think oli would be a good choice, as well.

no no no, we are simply a classic comedy movie waiting to happen. sooner or later up2date is going to pm us all about this top-secret-whistlestopper-mission we all have to go on and zing!!! off on the adventure with us:) there will be laughter, physical comedy, and yes, some conflict towards the end but it's okay because not only do we solve our problems and get back together, but we also save the world and the best-looking one of us gets the girl:D

I've had very deep and strong emotions, I've experienced things that put me into a complete sense of awe, and I've experienced many things I don't completely understand... but I have never had a "religious experience"

well, for the sake of your self-image, i'll go along and let you think that.
although, as i reread your original post, it appears in this plotline michele might be "the girl", in which case you are free to her. ( no offense intended michele, but sometimes you scare me;))
MikeDo; in his book "the problem of pain", cs lewis calls that the "numinous".

michelle seems like a cool person....don't get me wrong. we have never met.

Actually, I have had the opposite - experiences that really should have been spiritually infused that weren't. Including but not limited to a Blackfoot spirit journey (three days of hunting on peyote...o my), my hajj to Mecca (the story of which I didnt send you, cpwill, because it was emminently boring. Lots of prayers, a sea of people going left - like slow Muslim NASCAR), my rebaptism back into the Christian fold, and some others.
The main actual spiritual experience for me was when, after about two years of really struggling with my faith, I woke up one day, said "there is no God", and felt like 2000 lbs (or years) had lifted from my shoulders. I was giddy for three days, clearing away 35 years of superstitions, pent up anger, put my life into perspective of a purely scientific Universe, took responsibility for my own pain and loneliness, and have been a much happier camper ever since.
Even over ten years of massive, Jerry Garcia-like drug use I never experienced anything I would qualify as out of the ordinary. :)

lol, i would merely point out to you that if that's true, then you are not only schizophrenic, but one of your personalities is insane;)
and why are you assuming drug use would lead to a religious experience?

I think green lantern wants to assist you in that regard. Although, I suspect he'd be the one who'd recieve, rather than deliver, the religious experience

I wouldn't say that I had a religious experiance but maybe some kind of devine ntervention that saved my *** several times from being hit by cars and One of my friends was hit by a car a couple of times(seperate incidences) and lived through it although he has what looks like a chunk missing out of his throat.
