Seems that this is the event that began the stepped up violence against Palestinians and other Muslims in the ME. Of course Christians desperately want the Temple rebuilt as that is their signal of the second coming. I'll have to try and find out if the calf was in fact sacrficed in 2000.

Jews Hail Birth of Red Cow as Sign to Start Third Temple

'The birth of a red heifer in Israel is being hailed by religious Jews as a sign from God that work can soon begin on building the Third Temple in Jerusalem
'A team of rabbinical experts last week confirmed that the animal, born six months ago on a religious kibbutz near the north Israeli port of Haifa, meets the correct Biblical criteria for a genuine holy cow.

'According to the Book of Numbers (XIX:2-7), the animal is needed for an ancient Jewish purification ritual.

'"The Lord hath commanded saying: Speak unto the children of Israel that they bring thee a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke," says the fourth book of the Old Testament, also part of Jewish holy scripture, the Torah.

'The heifer will be slaughtered and burned, and its ashes made into a liquid paste and used in a ceremony which religious Jews believe they must undergo before they can enter the old Temple site in Jerusalem to start building a new structure.

'Since Herod's Temple was destroyed by the Roman emperor Titus in A.D.70, no flawless red heifer has been born within the biblical land of Israel, according to rabbinical teaching.

'The birth of the animal, to a black-and-white mother and a dun-colored bull, is being hailed as a "miracle" by activists who want to rebuild the Third Temple and prepare the way for the Jewish messiah's entry to Jerusalem.

'The faithful will need to wait until the heifer is at least three before it can be used as a ritual sacrifice. That would enable religious Jews to start the new millennium (a Christian event, but still regarded as portentous) in a state of purity.

'News of the red heifer's appearance, however, will not be well received by Muslims. The site of the old Jewish temples in the Holy City is now occupied by one of Islam's holiest shrines, the Dome of the Rock.

'Jewish extemists want to destroy the Dome and the adjoining Al-Aqsa mosque to make way for a new temple. In 1985 a group of Jewish terrorists were jailed in Israel for planning to destroy the Dome with high explosives.

'But Jewish activists say they regard it as their divine mission to build a new Temple.

'"We have been waiting 2,000 years for a sign from God, and now he has provided us with a red heifer," said Yehudah Etzion, the ringleader of the Eighties' plot to blow up the Dome, who was present at last week's inspection of the red heifer at Kfar Hassidim.

'"There were a couple of little white hairs which worried us, but the rabbis are satisfied that it is the red heifer referred to in the Bible," said Mr. Etzion.' -- Con Coughlin, London Sunday Telegraph, 16th March 1997.

I was hoping for that response. Laugh away CP but either you believe this junk and are indeed one in a wicked generation that seeks signs or you are just not well informed and I don't know you well enough to say one way or the other.

http://www.cuttingedge.org/news/n1067.html As we discuss this extraordinary story of this most remarkably rare event, keep in mind that Jews in Israel and throughout the world are not a monolithic group. The story, often told, that, "where two or three Baptists are gathered together, you will have five opinions", applies equally well with Jews. Jews throughout the world, but especially in Israel, are very fragmented, politically and religiously. You have Leftist, almost Communist Jews on the one side, and Rightist, Ultra-Orthodox Jews on the other side, with almost every conceivable variation in between. Jews from the Leftist to the Centrist view the Ultra-Orthodox Jew with embarrassment, even to the point of being offended that such persons could be Jewish. A Jewish business executive once remarked to me that he is "embarrassed" by the Hasidim, the Ultra-Orthodox Jew, and he considers it an affront that they exert any kind of influence at all in Israel, in the United States, and elsewhere around the world. Within this article, you will see such viewpoints expressed, by one Jew about another Jew.
The Ultra-Orthodox Jew sees the birth of the Red Heifer as a sign of the soon appearance of the Messiah for whom they are waiting, while the Leftist-Centrist Jew sees the Red Heifer as a potential "atom bomb". The Ultra-Orthodox Jew literally believes the Scriptures, especially the existence of the supernatural, while the Leftist-Centrist Jew does not believe in Scripture, nor do they believe in anything supernatural. And, make no mistake about the fact that feelings run very high and very furiously, between these different Jewish groups.

lol, i don't believe this junk, heck, i live in the middle of the conservative bible belt (among my friends, i'm the liberal); and i haven't met so much as one person in my 21 years of living on this planet who confesses to believing that a red cow being born is somehow going to give humans the ability to force God's time-table.

Jesus said that not even He knew the date of the end-time, it appears that God is playing this one pretty close to his chest (unless, of course, you wish to take the current-end-time theory presented in the johanian letters, in which case none of it matters anyway:))

cmon, don't you think this stuff is funny too?;):D

Wow, if that is true then fundamentalists are on their way to fullfilling the foretold predictions of Jesus.

There are many Jewish fundamentalists that want the Temple to be rebuilt. No doubt about that. The question is not if, but when.

To say that Christians are looking forward to the rebuilding of the Temple is not exactly correct. They BELIEVE it will happen, but that doesn't mean they want it to happen. They believe that this will cause war. You don't want to say that Christians want war do you? Even non-christians can clearly see how that would cause war. Fundamentalists will carry out their agenda and they are. We've seen it in the past, we see it today, we will see it in the future.

I might think it absurd to the point of ridiculous if the events that have been occuring in the ME of late weren't happening. But they are and the danger is abundantly clear. Many of these fruitcakes see the earth's baptism by fire as meaning one thing nuclear holocaust. And the plot to blow up the dome of the rock was as real as real can be. It would behoove a lot of people to start waking up to the fact of what some people are not only thinking but believing where the ME is concerned.

you mean any funnier than the immaculate conception yeah I would say on a par with wacko the red heifer thing is just as funny... but it is taken quite seriously you know those coo coo's on the far right of Jewish fundamentalism.

I don't think they really give a hoot whether the Christians believe it. you know the christians are really not the center of the universe. the point is that the really fundamental judea and samaria crowd they indeed do believe it to the degree that they may have genetically engineered a red heifer.

the last I looked after the initial discovery it was found that the red heifer had these few white hairs so the 2002 discovery was discounted ... it is on the red heifer site.... did you place that one? No. Let me add some.

here are the pictures... as well as the disqualifer it was the templeinstitute.

Update: In November, 2002, the red heifer born in Israel in April became disqualified.

Here is Justin Raimondo's ARticle on the discovery. It is those dispensationalists again.

snip

To the Muslim Palestinians, and their co-religionists worldwide, this is the site of the Dome of the Rock, a Muslim shrine, the sacred al-Aqsa mosque, and the place where Mohammed mounted a fine Arabian horse and galloped straight up to heaven. A large number of Christian fundamentalists have also imbued this spot with millennialist import: according to this “dispensationalist” view, Jesus Christ will return to earth to do battle on the plain of Armageddon and triumph over the Antichrist only after the building of the Third Temple. Dreher cites Gershom Gorenberg, whose book, End of Days: Fundamentalism and the Struggle for the Temple Mount, describes the apocalyptic intersection of religion and politics both in Israel and the US:

snip

OUR NUTBALLS, AND THEIRS

The key thing to remember, in all this mythological murk, is that no religious Jew is allowed to set foot on the Temple Mount, for fear of desecrating the sacred ground. In any case, the Temple can only be reconstructed when the Messiah returns to save his people, and, so far, no Messiah, and no Third Temple. But not all Israelis are willing to assume such a passive stance, tradition or no tradition. Ever since Israel came into possession of old Jerusalem, in 1967, a fanatical group of Israeli nationalists have tried to kick-start the eschatological machinery, plotting the destruction of the Muslim shrines and busily constructing the various ritual objects for use in the rebuilt Temple. These Israeli nutballs have forged a natural alliance with our Christian nutballs, who have their own theological rationale for hurrying Apocalypse along. They are dispensationalists, who believe – among other things – that the colonization of the Holy Land by the children of Israel signals the second coming of Christ: the efforts of these “Christian Zionists” account for the uncritical support for Israel among many “born again” Christian conservatives.

it is a long article, I reread it just recently, it holds a number of in text links, though I am not sure he comments on whether or not some genetic engineering was conclusive involved in an effort to push the prophecy... who knows... but these are the wacks wish to walk head first to into doomsday...
