ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO - Canada's Anglican Church chose a new leader who approves of blessing unions of same-sex couples, on the eve of a landmark vote by the church on whether to give dioceses across the country the go-ahead to provide such endorsements.

......and the anglican church continues to split, and members continue to leave.

we are witnessing the self destruction of a denomination.

we are witnessing the self destruction of a denomination.

just like the one that was witnessed in the 16th century when the Church excommunicated Martin Luther, and about half of (now) Germany went with him. I think eventually we'll each have our own brand of worship. Perhaps it's better that way.

And Liminal-liberal crosses his fingers in hope that if cpwill is right that one sinking ship will drag them all the other rotten ships down; alas my dreams never come through :( - usually. :D

The entire Christian church is splitting. On one side are churches that take the Bible literaly; and on the other are chuches who take it as nothing more than a good book.

This angers me that these fake christians(those who think it is just a good book and nothing more) are ruining christianity itself. If someone seriously believes in thier faith then they should believe that the religious documents(bible, koran and what ever is associated with those fiaths) are true and is in ordained and or inspired by god.All you fake christians just need to take a black magic marker and a knife and just mark or cut out what you do not like about the bible and the reprint it and call it and your alleged faith something else but not christianity, you fake christians and fake religious associated people make me sick.

So can I safely assume that you're in favor of executing witches? Or do only some people's black markers count?

"So can I safely assume that you're in favor of executing witches?"
Only if you can scientificly prove they are a witch.

This angers me that these fake christians(those who think it is just a good book and nothing more) are ruining christianity itself.

are they? i'm not so sure they are. the body of Christ has been around this long, and has gone through some fairly drastic changes, from being a persecuted cult to controling governments to being the battle cry of an entire continent (that then ruled the world) to now moving into a willful separation of itself from that power......who's to say what the next evolution is?

personally; i think the church is headed for a time of trouble; i think one end of it will be marked by these individuals and the other will be marked by the ultra-fundamentalists on the side. however, i also think that the church that survives will closer resemble the fundamentalists than the nothing-ists. (so to speak). the only churches in america today that are actually growing in size are the conservative ones; the old stand-by's, such as the episcopalian and presbyterian churches are rapidly losing members as more and more they become about nothing. the problem is, that's extremely unsatisfying to someone seeking a spiritual order; people want to be about something, and so the southern baptist movement continues to grow. having elected one president; they will likely elect more until we see a counterstrike from the rest of society, which will eventually result in a new period of persecution for the church (or a thinly veiled theocracy). the period of persecution will force the christian movement underground as the nothingists continue to publicly emphasize their distance from those groups by moving further and further away from their christian roots. in the end, only a hardened core of true believers will be left, to start over.

which, perhaps, is just what we need.
