Rush Limbaugh says agents seized his medical records in drug probe

WEST PALM BEACH -- Rush Limbaugh told listeners on his radio show Thursday that prosecutors in Palm Beach County investigating possible illegal drug transactions have seized medical records of four doctors who treated him for serious medical conditions.

Limbaugh, reading from a statement prepared by his attorney Roy Black, denied any wrongdoing and accused prosecutors of going on a ``fishing expedition.''

The conservative radio commentator was absent from his show for five weeks recently while spending time at a drug rehabilitation program because of his addiction to prescription painkillers.

Previously, law enforcement sources in Palm Beach County, where Limbaugh owns a $24 million oceanfront mansion, confirmed that a criminal investigation into a prescription drug ring involved Limbaugh. His former maid, Wilma Cline, reported supplying him with OxyContin and other painkillers.

Limbaugh said his doctors' records will clear him.

``What these records show is that Mr. Limbaugh suffered extreme pain and had legitimate reasons for taking pain medication. Unfortunately, because of Mr. Limbaugh's prominence and well-known political opinions, he is being subjected to an invasion of privacy no citizen of this republic should endure,'' Limbaugh said, reading from Black's statement.

``We won't speculate on why the State Attorney's Office is handling Mr. Limbaugh's case the way it is. But what should be a responsible investigation is looking more and more like a fishing expedition.''

The statement also said: ``Let us make our position clear: Rush Limbaugh is not part of a drug ring. He was never a target of a drug investigation. He became addicted to a prescription drug during legitimate medical treatment. He has publicly admitted this problem and has successfully sought treatment which continues today.''

Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney's office, declined comment. Black did not return a call seeking comment.

Last month, a law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity said authorities were also investigating whether Limbaugh illegally funneled money to buy prescription painkillers. The radio host responded with a blanket denial of the allegations during his third day back on the air.

Authorities learned two years ago during an investigation of U.S. Trust bank in New York that Limbaugh withdrew cash 30 to 40 times from his account at amounts just under the $10,000 bank reporting requirement, ABC News reported last month. A bank employee was reported to have delivered some cash to Limbaugh.

Following the report, Limbaugh told listeners it was misleading and said that he had the bank bring cash to him at his New York office ``maybe four times, if that many.'' Otherwise, he said he obtained cash from a bank in Florida, where he was living.

``When I went to get cash, I took a check to the bank. I went to the bank officer. I said, `Here's my check,' and they gave me the cash. There were witnesses to this,'' he said then. ___

Actually, calling Rush a Nazi only enhances the discussion.

And, whether he has a chef or not, one who uses narcotics long-term usually looses a great deal of weight. The importance of the drug is much more important than eating.

Now, I will admit to a little hypocrisy myself here, but it is for a good cause.

Anyone else accused of what Rush is accused of would get a bit of sympathy from me, it's true. Prescription drug addiction can make otherwise ordinary and law-abiding people do stupid, dangerous and even criminal things. Oftentimes the physicians prescribing the drugs are at least partially to blame, or sometimes it just plain happens to otherwise decent people.

The difference here is that we aren't dealing with "otherwise decent people", but with Rush Limbaugh, a man who has made a living out of villifying others, being characteristically unsympathetic to drug addiction sufferers, and otherwise been a big hypocritical loudmouth.

I hope they throw the book at him -- but of course they won't, he would and should be treated like anyone else in such a situation.

But if they do throw him in the clink, I hope he gets a 300lb purple homosexual cellmate. :) <mod edit :(

Only a true conservative would wish for Rush to own up to his responsibilities, and face punishment by the legal system, if found to be guilty. Placing blame on anyone else but Rush, would simply be considered too liberal. ;)

I can't imagine what Rush has said that causes all of this venom. He is an entertainer and less of a public policy expert. I don't know why anyone takes him that seriously.

Well....he's said plenty to offend lots of people (DRMIZER printed some examples above). But as for him being an entertainer and not to be taken seriously, I agree. Most of my conservative friends steer clear of him.

The thing is IS (I liked your Pravda name!), it isn't even really because he is conservative necessarily. George Will is conservative and I rather like him. I even have a modicum of respect for Pat Buchanan (that was hard to admit). But Rush is just a bloody hypocrite -- and people love to see hypocrites choke on their own bile.

But whoever said it above is right. Rush won't get more than a slap on the hand, and as much as I would love to see him behind bars just for my own satisfaction, the courts should treat him just like anybody else.

This is what I like. As I posted in another post of Drmizer. They love twisting, spinning, and nit picking everything until they find something. This is there only method of fighting back and it makes them feel, keyword being feel, powerful.

I can almost guarantee that the left has a paid group of people who do nothing but listen to Rush and other popular talk shows, analyzing everything just hoping that they can get some kinda fuel to fight back.

Rather than attack the issues at hand they always attack the person. DRMIZER is a poster child of this, as he does nothing but attack attack attack.

Rush isn't perfect, and doesn't exactly sit there reading from a list of boring news all day. As said above he is an entertainer, a very good one at that.
