View Full Version : Why have certain religions been persecuted more than others?

Many people only view racism as persecution of one people because of the color of their skin. But there are other forms of racism. Like the topic i'm discussing "religion racism." I know it's not technically racism, but it's the best way to refer to this topic.
At one time or another almost all religions were persecuted one way or another. The most foremost in my mind are the Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Muslims.
Jews and Jehovah's witnesses were persecuted by hitler in the the second world war. They were particularly sought out by him for some reason. I don't know if it's because they were saying was right or because they just rubbed hitler the wrong way.
Muslims were more recently persecuted because of the 9-11 attacks. People were so afraid that anyone who was muslim would blow up a building because of a few fanatics. People need to grow up and see that the religion doesn't make these homicidal maniacs. There are just bad people in every religion. Maybe that's the reason why certain religions are targetted.
What do you think are the reasons behind the persecution of religion?

It has less to do with any one religion, and more to do with the age in which these things occur.
All religions have had their day at the whipping post.

Islam has the unforunate time to be this age's whipping boy.
Christanity once held that post, as well as Judaism, not to mention a whole slew of other religions.
It's simply Islam's time to feel the persecution.
don't you love religion?

All the main religions have been persecuted at various points throughout their history.
Hitler persecuted the Jews because he largely blamed the Jewish bankers for the economic collapse of Germany in the early 1930's. They became his whipping boys for anything he could think of basically and it was all too easy for the nation to follow the reasoning behind his hatred. They too, needed a scapegoat.
Before this, there were the Russian pogroms against the Jews and you only have to read literature, such as 'The Merchant of Venice', to see that anti-semitism was very wide spread.
A lot of it comes down to the flawed logic that it was the Jews that killed Christ. Flawed because Christ was a Jew and his death was ordered by a representative of the Roman Empire not Jews.
Ok...the Bible says that the assembled Jews had a choice of Jesus or Barabus and chose the latter...but what better way is there to bring about the rejection of one of the oldest religions on Earth in favour of a new one that is trying to get established, than by apportioning blame?
At the end of the day, it was Pontius Pilot, a representative of the Roman Empire, that had the final say.
Muslims were slaughtered by the thousand in the Crusades, hundreds of years before the current feelings expressed towards them.
To my mind, the Crusades were nothing more than a very bloody P.R. exercise for Christianity and a good cover to steal the riches that the Muslims possessed. They were merchants of spices, gems and silk. All of which were more valuable than gold at the time.
Some would say that some things never change...
It's my honest opinion that Christians are probably the worst culprits for being prejudice towards each other.
Thousands of Catholics were murdered by Anglicans during the English Reformation. my part of the country was predominantly Catholic and many old houses locally, still have 'priest holes' where the wealthy would hide priests.
Many people forget that Hitler also persecuted Catholics and about 800,000 died in the extermination camps.
I can't help but see organised religion to be like some perverse inverted food chain where the aggressor changes daily and there are always victims.
I can't help but think that isn't what any compassionate God would intend for his creations. It really doesn't make sense to me.

The Bible says the unbelieving Jews will suffer much. God has shown them so many miracles yet they still don't believe in Jesus as a rule. As the Son of God. But God still loves them and they are still his chosen nation. Jesus did nothing but heal people and talk peace and they killed him. Actually Pontius Pilate did, but the Jews of that time wanted him dead. God is trying to make a point with them, but they don't get it.

The Jews of today are not the Jews of the bible.
Do a search for "Edomite Jews".

Blame God again!
After all, He's the only one who won't answer you back.

Xenon they are. Same blood lines or their ancestors. Jews feel the same way about Jesus as most during Jesus' time. They would kill him now probably.

The Jews didn't kill Jesus FACT according to the Bible itself.
Or have you conveniently forgotten about Pontius Pilot and the Roman centurians?

It is a sad fact, that if you put Jesus in jeans and a tee shirt, most would call him a hippy.
We live in a world where appearance is everything, and substance matters naught.
Just look at the people we put in office.
As for the Jews, this link is pretty extreme and should be taken as such. It is still truthful in its own way.

Take it with a grain of salt, and call me in the morning. :)
