What would they do if you were unscrupulous enough to be publicly a believer and privately an atheist?
Atheists are discriminated against in seven state's constitutions. When I first heard about this I was shocked; I found it very hard to believe. I knew that Atheists are not liked very well in our country, but discrimination? I did some research and found out the offensive truth. Below I have provided links to each of the state constitutions that discriminate against Atheists.

Gee, this seems serious. Where are the libertarians when you need them for once?

That’s actually rather disturbing, goes to show just how much religion has an influence in politics and how the government isn’t in fact looking out for the public, its majority rules. :(

Now God says in the Bible that a Fool says there is no God. I didn;'t say it God did, but I agree. I would hide if I were one lol

The bible says that God exists - therefore God exists.
So Simon - I see that you want Libertarians looking out for you when your subjective values are compromised, yet when it is others' subjective values that are compromised, not yours and by your whim, you don't seem to have a problem.

LOLLOLLOLLOL;
look, i don't know how much you know about state constitutions here in the US, but i do know that alabama's was written about 1903 and expressely forbids (among other things) missegenation and any position other than "missionary".
if these parts of the constitution of those states A) haven't been overruled by a later amendment or overuled by a national decision or B) are enforced at all by the legal authorities then i am the queen of england.

The concept of irony goes straight over your head. I don't like libertarians and would only ask for their help when in case of torture, after having tried everything like red hot iron rods to whipping, they would proceed to amputate my balls. The values are objective by the way.

Excuse me Miss Elizabeth, but I just took one example (http://www.lpitr.state.sc.us/scconstitution/a04.htm) and it is still there. It may not be enforced, but that doesn't make it allright to be there. Sorry if the protocol isn't alright.

it ain't enforced, trust me.
about the worst that exists these days is that many states add "so help me God" to the end of the governors oath.

But for some strange reason, this is irrational, yet the Bible is not.

No, I don't know a lot about the US constitutions but simon is right is stating that it’s not alright to be there.
Why hasn’t it been changed? Do you not think that if something doesn’t go right in somebody’s books then he/she won’t bring this up in court?
Hell, I would if I was a power hungry, manipulative politician that something didn’t go right for. Simply because it doesn’t get enforced at that particular time doesn’t change the fact that it’s still legal and can be enforced.
So yes it’s disturbing because it still provides opportunity.

In response to bama47's message. This person made the remark that if they were one that they would hide. Why exactly would you hide? I'm a an Atheist and I've never hidden that from anyone. Do you think I should feel ashamed?

as i recall from my british government; the queen technically still
"gives the agenda" in the Gracious Speech (or something of that nature) and still "signs the bills" that parliament makes. what do you think would happen if the queen were to try to use her authority to veto an act of parliament?
it's the same with this, if someone were to try to actually use this; the only result that would happen would be an amendment.
people don't change it because amending the constitution is alot of work, and it's easier simply to let it die on the vine. we have alot of stupid unenforced laws like that. this is just one more example.
