Former NFL star White dies

Reggie White, the former Green Bay Packer and Philadelphia Eagle defensive star, died today at the age of 43.

White, whose free-agent signing with the Packers in 1993 altered the NFL landscape, died of respiratory failure due to sleep apnea, according to White's widow, Sara. Sara White spoke this morning with Fox studio co-host James Brown.

"Today our beloved husband, father and friend passed away," Sara White said in a statement through a family pastor. "His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of Reggie White. We want to thank you in advance for honoring our privacy."

Reggie was one of the greatest, on and off the field. The Minister of Defense. He always spoke his mind, the PC crowd be damned. Who was gonna tell Reggie to "shut up" about his religious beliefs to his face?

Hmmm..it's good when some conservative or religious right type spouts his message, but it's bad when it's some liberal from Hollywood or a Dixie Chick.

I think it's great for everyone to speak as they please (within reason), Dixie Chick included. I'd guess it's their own whinning and moaning about the inevitable critisism that makes most outspoken limelight people look like fools.

Reggie took his lumps in the press over the years for speaking out as a minister. He took it in stride and never changed who he was.

Reggie was a great player, and he helped my team whoop *** in the late 90s.
Didn't pay much attaention to his message, as it was about as fundamentalist as you can get.

May he rest in peace.

Young for a heart attack. Must have had a secondary illness to cause that.

It seems a suprising, to me, number of athletes die young. I realize they get press and that could create a false impression but more than should seem to die of natural causes at an early age.

beg your pardon
