This test was posted a few months ago.

Here are my results for today; I'll try to
find the old ones.

The results here are not accurate; non-theist
should be first, and Islam and scientology
should be even lower.

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (95%)
3. Nontheist (84%)
4. Liberal Quakers (79%)
5. Theravada Buddhism (77%)

That's a pretty weird test. I don't know if I liked all the questions, but I imagine getting everyone to like them would be difficult with religion.

I don't really feel like doing the test again, so I'll just say that I was most closely matched with Secular Humanism, though I consider myself an atheist.

Im am currently making another post describing all the problems with the qaker religion (lol good timing) this link will probably help allot more ill pass it on asap.

jray hey interesting results but how did neo pagan get up there? lol what do you believe (ive made allot of studies from these tests)

Turrene hey im surprised islam is down so low on your list do you know much of the bahai faith? this will probably influence your results if you did?

Never saw that coming, Larani. I think neo-pagan is what those people that mimic really old religions call themselves. I guess I can see it ranking up there because the few folks I know who fit that description are really big on helping folks out.

I reported my results differently. . . . .Although I'm a Deist, this is close enough.

Belief in Deity
Very diverse beliefs--Unitarian/Universalists welcome all deity beliefs as well as nontheistic beliefs. Some congregations are formed for those who share a common belief, e.g. Christianity.

• Incarnations
Very diverse beliefs, including belief in no incarnations, or that all are the embodiment of God. Some believe Christ is God's Son, or not Son but "Wayshower."

• Origin of Universe and Life
Diverse beliefs, but most believe in the Bible as symbolic and that natural processes account for origins.

• After Death
Diverse beliefs, but most believe that heaven and hell are not places but are symbolic. Some believe heaven and hell are states of consciousness either in life or continuing after death; some believe in reincarnation; some believe that afterlife is nonexistent or not known or not important, as actions in life are all that matter.

• Why Evil?
Most do not believe that humanity inherited original sin from Adam and Eve or that Satan actually exists. Most believe that God is good and made people inherently good but also with free will and an imperfect nature that leads some to immoral behavior. Diverse beliefs. Some believe wrong is committed when people distance themselves from God. Some believe in “karma,” that what goes around comes around. Some believe wrongdoing is a matter of human nature, psychology, sociology, etc.

• Salvation
Some believe in salvation through faith in God and Jesus Christ, along with doing good works and doing no harm to others. Many believe all will be saved, as God is good and forgiving. Some believe in reincarnation and the necessity to eliminate personal greed or to learn all of life’s lessons before achieving enlightenment or salvation. For some, the concepts of salvation or enlightenment are irrelevant or disbelieved.

• Undeserving Suffering
Diverse beliefs. Most Unitarians do not believe that Satan causes suffering. Some believe suffering is part of God’s plan, will, or design, even if we don’t immediately understand it. Some don’t believe in any spiritual reasons for suffering, and most take a humanistic approach to helping those in need.

• Contemporary Issues
The Unitarian Universalist Association’s stance is to protect the personal right to choose abortion. Other contemporary views include working for equality for homosexuals, gender equality, a secular approach to divorce and remarriage, working to end poverty, promoting peace and nonviolence, and environmental protection.

 Blue I think you and me are just too alike. I think and I too was born and raise Catholic that you just grew up as I did. I think you just started asking to many questions and not seeing the puzzle pieces fitting together and finally in frustration you just realized that someone had given you a bogus puzzle to begin with and that the pieces weren't suppose to fit together. :laughter:

I can think of two particular masses when everything hit me and it all fell into place. If anything, I realised that no one religion has all the answers and I've met too many incredible people of all faiths to honestly say that one is right and the others are wrong.
I believe in spirituality but I feel that the Bible and organised religion are a mass distraction from the truth...if there is a truth. But I've absolutely no desire to hop from one religion to another trying to see what fits. To my eyes, all organised religions are methods of controling the masses and I don't want to be controlled.
The way I see it, if you don't spend your life being nasty and trying to hurt people, then things will work out alright in the end, regardless of whether you have a faith or not.

:D Heh yes it probably does. But besides the poll, from my own experience 95% of the people born into the Catholic Church reject and disown it and usually there religious beliefs change into the complete opposite of the Church. There can be no doubt in Ireland that the Catholic Church is struggling to survive...

Blueangel
01-22-2005, 07:52 AM
That doesn't surprise me too much. I think many faiths are struggling to survive but few admit it.

Hate is the wrong word, but I don't hate the Catholic church. I still know a few priests that I have the utmost respect for as humanitarians. There's one in particular who I will always be in awe of, but he's such a gifted teacher and special person that I'd be in awe of him no matter what faith he belonged to. He's just someone who chose that particular vehicle to make a difference in this World.
Even though I'm agnostic, if this man was my parish priest I'd still attend every mass just to listen to his sermons and his view of the World.

I've also noticed that my results are almost identical to those listed by atheists, but I consider myself to be an agnostic.

Belief in Deity
There exists one God--Universal Mind, creative intelligence, omnipresent--a principle (not a being), an impersonal force that manifests itself personally, perfectly, and equally within all.

• Incarnations
No particular incarnations, as God is within all equally. Some believe Jesus was exemplary of someone who fully realized his divine nature, and therefore is the "wayshower" (shows the way).

• Origin of Universe and Life
The universe and all within it are expressions of God--the creative intelligence--with no beginning and no end.

• After Death
Some believe in continual rebirth as a gift from God so that all may become immortal, as was Jesus Christ, with each lifetime a preparation for the next. Others believe the individual soul merges with the universal spirit after death.

• Why Evil?
No original sin, and no Satan and no evil. People make "mistakes" due to ignorance of one's true nature as Perfect Mind and Love, which is God.

• Salvation
Salvation lies in the realization of oneness with the impersonal life force, thus unlocking one's healing potential. Licensed practitioners counsel on spiritual healing for problems of the mind, body, and life. Some believe Jesus is the "wayshower" to salvation. Some believe that all, regardless of actions, will be saved by the grace of a loving and forgiving God. Most believe that spiritual awareness of God's omnipresence--that God is all and all are God--leads to personal and humanity's salvation. Many believe that repeated reincarnations are God's gift, each lifetime a preparation for the next, until "perfection" is reached, which is God.

• Undeserved Suffering
Suffering results from ignorance of one's true nature as Perfect Mind and ceases with complete realization that we all are one with God, the Universal Mind. One can heal personal suffering through New Thought practices, often with the assistance of New Thought practitioners.

=======================================

Well, it's not perfect. I could argue with several of the listed beliefs and expand on others to be more in line with my own beliefs. Still, it's fairly close as generic surveys go.

• Belief in Deity
Most Conservative Protestants believe God is incorporeal, omnipresent spirit--a Trinity of the Father (God), the Son (Christ), and the Holy Spirit that comprises one God Almighty.

• Incarnations
Jesus Christ is God's only incarnation. He is the Son of God and God, both fully divine and fully human, part of the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, which comprises one God Almighty.

• Origin of Universe and Life
The biblical book of Genesis is inerrant. God created the universe and all life forms from nothing in less than 7 days, less than 10,000 years ago--not as revealed by modern science. Many resolve the conflict between scientific evidence and the book of Genesis with the contention that God created the appearance of evolution (perhaps as a test of faith), or that scientific evidence is faulty.

• After Death
Saved souls experience the bliss of heaven and unsaved souls the torture of hell. On Judgment Day, Jesus Christ will resurrect the dead, reunite body and soul, and judge each for eternity in heaven, or on a restored, paradisiacal earth, or in hell. Some believe the souls of the dead will remain "asleep" until the resurrection and final judgment.

• Why Evil?
The original sin of Adam and Eve caused all to inherit sinfulness. Some Conservative Protestants believe that only relatively few people will be saved. The work and influence of Satan prevail among the unsaved and/or those who lack complete faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

• Salvation
Salvation is granted by the grace of God alone, through faith in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Savior--not through "works" such as moral behavior, good deeds, and generally not through sacraments. Some believe that once saved, or born again, always saved. Many Conservative Protestants regard baptism, when performed, as a practice for adult believers, rather than infants/children, as it is not considered a sacrament for salvation but an act of commitment to the fellowship. However, some churches do regard certain sacraments as very important components on the path to salvation (e.g. Evangelical Lutheran Church of America), including infant baptism, regarding baptism as a miracle from God that creates faith in the heart. Some Protestants regard baptism as a washing away of sin, which may be repeated. Among most, confession/repentance is considered personal, between the individual and God, unless a public sin is involved, and confession to a pastor, when offered, is optional. Some use exorcism to remove indwelling evil spirits. Pentecostalists believe that speaking in tongues is a gift from God as evidence of having been born again, and some regard it as the only evidence of having been born again. Preaching the gospel, the Word of God, is often regarded as a means for building faith in Christ.

• Undeserved Suffering
Some suffering is caused by the inheritance of mortality originating from Adam and Eve's disobedience to God, which includes vulnerability to illness and disease. Also, Satan rules the earth, causing pain and suffering. Many believe that suffering is God's design to test, teach, or strengthen belief in Him; the greater the suffering of innocent believers, the greater will be their reward after life.

• Contemporary Issues
Abortion is considered murder. Positions among denominations on divorce vary from unacceptability of divorce and remarriage to acceptance of divorce in certain situations and remarriage.

It was close. I don't entirely agree with the whole "undeserved suffering" statement above... but many of the options that the test gave were too limited.

Well though I missed least Catholic and Orthodox (the religions of my birth and rasing) by a percent I think I managed least Islam, least Jehovah's Witness, least Adventist, and least Hindu (Hindi?). I'll settle for it.

The only reason that I got Secular Humanism over Non-Theist is the same reason I did the last time (and probably the reason many others did as well). I answered the questions concerning what moral statements your religion would make on certain issues as if I had a faith, what that faith would say. If I answered it as they tell me I should I would just put N/A instead of actually filling it out.

EDIT: I think it is quite funny that I am 9% Hindu since if I really were going to believe in a faith it would be Hinduism since the actual beliefs are so varried and maleable.
