People are made up of smaller life (cells) to create a larger being. Cells are not aware that they are part of a larger being, but they obviously are right?

My beleif is that we are part of a bigger being also. If you havn't already noticed, society seems to form and shape what we do, how we act, and how we live, much the same way that our body does to cells. The interesitn part is that there are multiple cultures and nations in our world that seem to function indepentently, but also interact with each other, similar to how a heart and other organs keep the bigger unit alive.

You could look at it in a slightly smaller scale and say that noation, etc are conscious beings too that interact and even try to kill one another.

What do you think? Is culture really an aware being? Are our actions actually our own or the "oversoul" to put in trancendentalist terms just helping us find our function in the social body?

heh, nice one. Though the deeper you get into this theory the harder it is to deny God. At least, that has been the case for me. Life is everywhere. It doesn't end with plants, animals, and humans. Even space is thought to be constantly growing, and has been proven to be constantly changing.

The book, "In Dubious Battle" actually had a part that described this process really well. Through the perspective of a Doctor who believed mob mentality worked like living organisms.

Sociology is a fascinating subject.

Interesting, I might need to read that book. I agree though, the deeper you get into thinking about things like this the harder it is to deny a god in a more traditional form, beit the trancendental oversoul or an actual creator.

Actually this idea was explored in a science fiction book by Heinlein (I think) called The Unreasoning Mask.
