I take that train route to go to school, and return home.
I think I knew some passengers.
Most of the people that take the route from Ventura to Union Station are going to their jobs in the city.
Juan Manuel Alvarez was irresponsible in every action, and caused destruction.
Ten People on our route will never return home to possibly- look upon their family;- enjoy retirement; -watch the world change and grow.
The only positive aspect I see - coordination of infrastructure. This horrible accident reminds me of how precious life is in our city. It reminds me that agencies will be there for Los Angelinos, and hopefully this event will bring about the solutions to many problems our city still holds.
I only wish the rest of the world had such beautiful urban planning, and infrastructure.

Agreed. If this moron wanted to kill himself, he should have went to Walmart and bought a gun - not park his SUV in front of a train.

Purchasing a gun from Walmart would only exaccerbate the situation.
There are many aspects to this complex situation. Juan Alvarez could have NOT acted upon his desires to kill himself. Granted, he did act, in a half assed way, and failed.
If he had at least planned his suicide, he might have HAD the consideration and decency to not place people in harm or death's way. But since I am addressing the actions of a "deranged" person, I really have no say in what could or could not have happened. Since he is "deranged", he will most likely end up in an institution, and escape the charge of homicide. However, if it is revealed that he is in fact not deranged or mentally unsound, then he should receive banishment. Banishment would be appropriate for the cercumstances. He should live in an uncomfortable evironment with no living people or domesticated animals. He should be banished from the social world as we know it. That would be a living hell for him, and it would show how unappreciative he was of other living social beings.
Alvarez should be sent to Guantanamo Bay if he feels so unfortunate in Los Angeles. He failed at his own personal act in such a profound way. By placing his private act in the searing eye of the public, and needlessly killing others in the failed attempt.
He failed in every aspect of this event - he was supposed to die alone, somewhere private, an unnamed police matter. The unknowing passengers would have lived and been walking through the doors of their offices. But Alvarez probably needed attention, so he parked his car on the train tracks with out an regard to life or health of others. HE THOUGHT THIS THROUGH. HE drove there and placed his car in BREAK Position! He had enough time to have SECOND THOUGHTS.
No, Walmart would have made it worse, because, in this instance there was a jeep in the hands of a lunatic. Can you imagine what he would have done with a gun and second thoughts?

Maybe we need some of those "suicide booths" like on Futurama (cartoon).

Or he could have downed some sleeping pills and fell asleep on the tracks.
Personally I think his intentions were to derail that train. If he allegedly did not chicken out out of commiting suicide, what would have been on the thoughts of many people around the country when the story first broke out?
I beleave the authorities are right to charge him with murder.

I wonder why he had to park the truck on the tracks. Why not just lie down. Any fool would have a clue that the truck might do damage to the train. I think I agree with jamesrage, and I do agree that the authorities are right to charge him with murder... 11 times over.

Apparently, he could not have removed his jeep, even if he tried, for it became stuck in the tracks.
I agree, he should have parked and put a quarter in the meter, then lay down on the tracks (covered in super glue or fast acting tar). This would have been a major improvement. It would also have set a good example for the copy cat idiots; who are currently leading in the polls, under: "sorry *** losers who need to realize other living beings occupy this planet too." ****ing bastard idiots.

Out of all the ways a individual can himself,Why a jeep on the train tracks?
I suspect malicious intent. This guy could have jumped off a building, hanged himself, shot himself, overdose, jumped off a bridge or even just walked out the vehicle and placed his neck on a train track.

I think I figured out why he parked his jeep on the tracks. He didn't want his ex-wife to inherit the car.
He wanted to kill himself out of revenge. Then, he only felt remorse after being caught.

This guy has to go down on the list as one of the biggest punks in history.
People died and many injured leaving many families greeving because this guy was truly gutless.
Obviously he won't need a urinal in his prison cell as he squats to pee.

Maybe you are right. But what if he stayed in that jeep instead of getting out, what would people assume?

He has no balls.
Thus, implying he has no penis.
Thus, implying that he has a vagina and has to squat to pee.

I hope gender doesn't have anything to do with how successful someone is in an attempted suicide.
