This goes hand in hand with the "Who's more blind" thread. I find it amazing how many people of all ideological bents view the world this way. Their need to be right and to defend their stated beliefs grants them the ability to see things in a dynamic perspective. Dynamic because they change their arguments to better suit their cause/belief/position while losing site of the truth. I think in many cases the people doing this do not even realize it themselves.
I am not accusing any individual or party of this. It's just something I've observed and find both amazing and bewildering.

Guilty!
But it's a woman's privilege to change her mind. :p
No, seriously, I find that no matter how much ground I concede in the name of compromise, it isn't enough for some people.
This reaction only throws me out to the extreme of my original arguement.
But that's the nature of politics.
You reach a point where everything you say is perceived as being wrong, and you just stop bothering.

I enjoy this forum because it allows people to express their ideas in a intelligent, well thought out and hopefully somewhat rational manner. It seems that when some people are confronted with real statistics and meaningful information they have no recourse but to jump off the deep end. I personally think it's ok to be persuaded if the argument makes sense and is backed by real information.
My minds made up, don't confuse me with the facts.

You can't be because I am!
Sure, strong beliefs led to strong defense of those beliefs. I have no problem with that. But you never know what might stick with any of us later.
Discussion is better than being a dittohead.

No one likes being told they’re wrong and it’s important to question what seems to be meaningful info and statistics. I don’t think statistics are necessarily right; there are too many variables at times.
Sometimes it's better to say we agree to disagree. I’m still learning to do this but we all make mistakes.
I’ll use this space to say – I’m personally sorry if I have or happen to offend anyone with what I believe or if I write something stupid.
;)

Proud card carrying conservative atheist Republican - and I drive a gas guzzling SUV. ~
You do know that you are going to hell for these sins right?

No, because you're proud it is gas guzzling. That's like being proud you have the wealth to spill mercury in drinking water senselessly. Or being proud you can buy enough rubber tires you can burn them filling the skies with pitch black smoke.

perhaps you should gather data first, maybe she has to drive an suv because she has to sit high on the road for her eyes, or maybe she has animals to haul around, or maybe she has to pull her trailer, or maybe she is a good samaritan and pulls people out of the snow or ditches.
but you know in the last big war, tires were worth more than the car so she will be way ahead!
don't get mad at the driver, get mad at the maker eh? If someone didn't make them, someone couldn't drive them.
I hope she isn't the person passing me and blowing dirty rain water on me though.

I've seen enough of those signatures to know that the braindead person using it believes it is something to be proud of either way and that somehow it helps the economy.

I think it's meant to be sarcastic than anything.
But then again, I could be saying that because I drive one too.

Oh come on, what person with a brain is proud : look I pollute the environment? They are bent on provoking people, so if braindead provokes them they get what they deserve. I'll apologize for the braindead thingy if he stops provoking too.

America was founded on provoking people. Our provoking history goes all the way back to Boston Harbour and beyond. We are proud of our fine-tuned provoking qualities, and provoking is our most valued industry today, just watch a little television and you'll see.

Simon: Why not lighten up? Marv can out argue most any day of the week. Are you sure you want to take him on? Besides we aren't here to insult one another. You can do that in the other forum.
I've ignored this thread too long. Now I'n not mad, but I'd like to set the record straight.
First to america: I'm a he - and no offense taken
Next to Simon: "proud to drive a gas guzzeling SUV" - it's a joke son, lighten up. It's a '79 Bronco now with over 700,000 miles on it, second engine, third tranny overhaul, second gas tank, second speedometer cluster and a rusty body. I bought it when I lived in the Rocky Mts. See my home page to get an idea of why I needed it just to get to work. Now I live in the Ozark Mts. and I can't count the folks I've pulled out of snow banks or the errands I've run for some of my elderly neighbors when we're iced in.
Hey, the Bronco will be elegible for antique tags next year! :D~
Now we're cool - g'nite -

Sorry, seen that signature once too many and still find it provoking. And for the record, gas guzzling is not only bad for a greenhouse effect which is merely theoretical according to disbelievers, it also causes proven problems as lead pollution which causes (depending on exposure light) mental retardation, astma (in case of diesels) and a variety of other problems. And causes massive economic damage as smog causes health problems that cost society a lot, as well as damage to monuments which have to be cleaned up if they are not unrepairably damaged, as well as speeds up aging of rubber tires so they have to be replaced more ofte, also a cost factor and environmentally proven bad.
But I guess as the US is sparsely populated unlike Europe and is relatively new so their ain't much monuments to protects, it is somewhat less bad. And as the health care system is crap compared to over here you don't have to worry about the health of other people living in the smog.

I am thinking that people cannot provoke people, people should be in charge of their own emotions, provoke is an emotion.
I hate people who drive vans so God makes sure he puts a van in front of me every trip out of the house, he will do this until I begin to say "I love people in Vans", so far we remain at the ole Mexican Stand Off. Either way I "lose" so I should begin to say "I love Vans", but can't bring myself to do so,
you try it first and see if it works.
Say:
"I love SUV's and the people that drive them", say it three times and click your heels.
Keep me posted.:p

Do you think that the Pulmonologists are the ones who are manufacturing the SUV's?

However illogical, absurd, angry, obtuse or ill-mannered a person can be in presenting their thoughts, opinions or beliefs.... I encourage forums such as this if for no other reason than having a mechanism to express all the things built up inside that go unheard throughout the day. I may not always agree with what another has to say, even if they are on my side and I do not always expect for people to stay on track with their arguments because sometimes its' just too damn impossible. But I do appreciate the opportunity to learn from others no matter what their views are, for I am not such a person that I am always right in what I say.
