Limbaugh said on Thursday he stepped down late Wednesday from the show "Sunday NFL Countdown" to protect the network from the uproar caused by his statement that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.Did the media blow these comments out of proportion or does he deserve whatever he gets? For his part, Donovan McNabb took the comments in stride.
Incidentally, Limbaugh's name came up as a possible buyer in a drug investigation in Florida. Hmm. That would explain some things. ;)

i listen to rush a fair bit and have been a fan for just about 2 years. But! i can honestly say i thought his comment on ESPN was stupid and should have been kept to his show on the radio. This was the SECOND time he threw a political comment into the sports arena.
The last thing we want to hear on a sports show is political banter. I want to hear "Packers beat the Vikings 300 to zero", not something on how the media is playing race games.
As far as the drug allegations... I dont know. As with anybody i will say he is innocent till proven guilty but if he did do it then i am in mixed minds as to whether it will damage his career as a political talk show host.
I am kind of veering toward the "guilty as charged" corner though. Although this was something that happened a while ago and if he plays the "human frailty" card and cries while holding a press conference then he should be ok.
BUT!!!!! The partisan side of my brain is screaming "Left wing conspiracy" and "Clinton involvement!". But i shall keep that quiet for now.

I don't think this is a conspiracy at all. The drugs he is accused of using are painkillers. If he is guilty, he certainly wouldn't be the first. I think his radio show won't be hurt at all. He may even get his best ratings in a while.
As for his role on ESPN, frankly that's why they hired him. They wanted a little controversy. Maybe they got a little too much. ;)

I to think he should have kept it on his show, but am not sure if what he said was correct. I believe that not being raciest is treating all nationalities the same. Not giving some advantages for fear of being considered racist.

I just think there is a time and a place for that sort of debate. After a football game on ESPN is neither the time nor the place. Rush should have known better.

ESPN certainly did not hire him for his football knowledge. They hired him to stir some a little controversy. Personally, I agree with you. Get a football guy in there.

i hear ESPN are trying to make good on recent events by hiring Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as anchors... hopefully no politics will rear its head now.

I am not a full fledged "Ditto Head" but I do enjoy listening to Rush.
I was listening today when he aknowledged that he has a problem with pain killers.
I felt that he handled it very well and hope the very best for him.
