RICHMOND, Va. - A rush to purchase $50 used laptops turned into a violent stampede Tuesday, with people getting thrown to the pavement, beaten with a folding chair and nearly driven over. One woman went so far as to wet herself rather than surrender her place in line.

I just donated 6 older laptops and 8 desktops to a program that gives them to underprivledged kids. The Laptops were like Dell 600mhz P3 Latitudes and the desktops were Dell 800mhz P3 Optiplex's. To slow for my company but I am sure some kid can put it to good use as they are good enough for word processing and such. They were just wasting away in storage so I figured I would put them to good use.

I bought a used laptop last year for $200 and it was a Pentium 2. These were probably worth $400-$500.

Look, I'm not trying to defend these peoples' actions; they were stupid, no question. However, I am merely pointing out other such incidents that have occurred in the past over things even more trivial than this. Remember when people got into fights over Tickle Me Elmos? These are sad reminders of what a grotesquely materialistic society we've become.
