Whats the general consensus on Geothermal heating, Greywater reusal, and windmills for electricity? Are these cost effective? Marketable? or are they just hippie nonsense.

We have a whole lot of windmills in west Texas so I suppose they must be viable. However, they also pose a real threat to birds such as eagles and other endangered species.

Geothermal heating might work if you have the source availabe. I've heard that it works fairly well in Iceland. I don't know of anyplace in the US where it would work, mostly because the environmental extremists object to any commercial development of the few hot spots (like Yellowstone Park) that we have in the US.

Windmills are fine when the wind blows, and only good for applications that are not time sensitive - like pumping water for stock tanks on a ranch. They are not reliable enough to count on for consumer and industrial purposes.
