From the brief look at the article, it seems to me that Messianic Jews want to emphasize the Jewish element of the Biblical Christ's history. Other than that though, there seems to be no difference between the two groups. Perhaps they call themselves "Jews" to emphasize the fact that they are Jewish and have a differing opinion of the status of Christ as the Messiah from other Jews.
