OK, so I’m just an old grump – I know it, we all know it – I don’t like hardly anything, except maybe Christmas – but could we get real about the mania over “the big game”? I mean, it’s ridiculous – the only thing more stupid than watching the so called Super Bowl, is sitting there like a moron Watching “stock cars” go round in a circle at a NASCAR race.

Here’s this organization – the NFL – that practices everything red-blooded Americans are supposedly opposed to. It’s as close to socialism as you can get – they share revenue, practice price controls, hell, they even dictate salary caps to “level the playing field” – even your team’s colors are assigned to them by the league. It’s central control, plain and simple.

The owners are, for the most part, billionaires who demand that taxpayers provide stadiums at little or no cost to them – they enjoy unique federal tax advantages, and gleefully accept local tax “incentives.” Few even live in the communities that their teams bleed for every last cent they can carry off. And the players! Most of them are illiterate goons, many with criminal backgrounds – the kind of people that would make you cross the street if you saw them coming the other way. They are carpetbaggers, with no loyalty to the “team” or the town they play in.

The fans who show up at the games are blood thirsty, drunken louts, who throw beer at each other and engage in fistfights at the drop of a hat. This is after some of them have spent $1000's just to get a seat.

And as for the “big game” itself – it is unwatchable, with frequent, agonizingly-long commercial breaks, and more often than not, a blowout, with one of the teams so underperforming as to be an embarrassment. You gotta be nuts to park your fat arss in front of the tube for this spectacle – absolutely nuts!

But hey, don’t let me rain on your parade – if you want to be conned into being part of this crap, you just go right ahead…

Sometimes you just have to set aside your notions of what is right and decent, and have fun.
To me it is more of a chance to get together with friends and family, and laugh and have a good time, and catch a buzz on a sunday afternoon:D But if the green bay packers ever get a chance in the near future, it will be a whole different story. I'll be the drunken idiot throwing beers around!

A few generalizations in there, but I'll let them slide, since they are mostly harmless and in good fun!

I find football to be incredibly boring. I won't even be watching for the commercials.

Last time I tried that, I picked up a nickel in Joliet. ;)

Oh, do please tell us how to live our lives. The game is 3 hours long. What will you be doing that is so socially redeeming during that 3 hours? I am really curious as to what breaking news activity you will be involved in.

In your own words "You gotta be nuts to park your fat arss in front of the tube for this spectacle –"

I couldn't say it better than you did.

----Football games and stock car races used to be fun until they got turned into a Nuremburg Rally, and the players became billionaires.
It's alright.....after the coming economic collapse someone will get it in their head to just have a friendly game of football, and someone else will televise it on the internet, and we'll be back to where we were when professional sports were......."fun".

It was a pretty good game, even though most of the commercials were pretty lame.

Sorry you missed it! ;)

Joe, Joe, Joe. Even I wasn't doing homework. Learn to relax and watch a game every once in a while!

I had a Constitutional Law class today, couldn't afford not to study.

I did end up catching the sad halftime show.
