Not unless you're going to question the patriotism of Fred Phelps. With so many people just dying to become Americans, people like Phelps and the "USA must be defeated" protestor represent something of a paradox.
Nothing worse than a party pooper who refuses to leave the party. Unless you want to count a vigorous defense of its southern border, Mexico can be relied upon to not intervene militarily in any other country. Maybe Phelps and co. could move to Mexico.

You know I don't think Phelps is a traitor in the traditional sense. He is just a arrogant nutcase.

I don't think that there is any real question in the minds of most conservatives that many of his ilk predominate the liberal ranks. I would not care to have one in the foxhole beside me. Especially after Kerry's comments today. After all, we conservatives are just knuckle dragging Neanderthals who don't have sense enough to come in out of the rain.

I'm in the "liberal ranks", fairly active locally in politics, and I don't know one person of this "ilk". You're going to have a hard time convincing me that they are as pervasive as you seem to gather from your observations through the media.
Oh, and yes, Joe, you can question that guys patriotism. No problem.

And that's precisely why I can't really trust much of anything conservatives say - because you believe that idiots like this makes up most liberals and you're so PATENTLY wrong that it's offensive.
Idiots like this make up approximately 1% of those who call themselves liberal. No more a percentage than Fred Phelps makes up those who call themselves conservative.
Thus, if you're going to assume that, then I am going to assume that Fred Phelps, Pastor Becky Fischer, Ann Coulter and Michael Savage must represent 100% of conservatives in America and that you too think:
If you truly believe this, MM, then I am sad for you.

I don't have a clue who Phelps and Fischer are. I am amused by Coulter and have perhaps listened to Michael Savage a time or two. Isn't he a bit shrill?
If you want to know who I DO listen to, I listen to Don Imus. He tells it like it is, even if I don't agree with him. What I don't like are the political shills. And I don't have to hold up my finger in the wind to know whose side I am on. So feel sorry for me if you want to but you needn't. Today was a revelation. It made very clear which side of the bread my butter is on. This Kerry business is unforgivable. Never again.

So, what you're saying is, that you can compare liberals to the worst-common-denominator that you can find, but you'll deny even the lowest understanding of anything resembles the worst-common-denominator of what you represent? Right?

No, it simply means that I will never trust a liberal Democrat ever again. I have long suspected the contempt they have held for our military. Kerry finally revealed himself. He's made his bed. He can lie in it.
It's the old saying that "better the devil I know than the one I don't." For all I know all the Republicans in Washington, D.C. are lying bloodsuckers but I don't have to question their patriotism. At least they know whose side they are on.

After all, we conservatives are just knuckle dragging Neanderthals who don't have sense enough to come in out of the rain. That's just silly. That would only be true if you honestly and truly believed something as foolish as this:I don't think that there is any real question in the minds of most conservatives that many of his ilk predominate the liberal ranks.

Oh, I believe it and have for a very long time. And I'm not alone. I don't trust the Democrats and after Kerry revealed his true beliefs I will never be fooled again. Not for as long as I live. I would vote for a crooked Republican before I would ever vote for an "honest" Democrat simply on national security alone. I'm done with them. I was raised a Democrat, voted for three of them. But never again.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
New Testament: Chapter 13, verse 11 (Paul of Tarsus)
Took me a long time to grow up but the scales fell from my eyes today. I can see clearly now. Very clearly.

What I see is a picture of an old man with a sign - he might have been part of a crowd but then again he might have just wandered in and decided to stir things up. Then again he might have NOTHING to do with the rally - I cannot seem to verify this picture on any other site here is a link to other photos of that rally

Fair enough, because I'll never trust a so-called conservative ever again. At least to run my government, handle my money, or babysit my kids.
That said, if you think Kerry meant what he said, then you're just silly. You've seen what the transcript was supposed to read, and it was an insult of Bush - not the troops.
The only people I've seen insult the troops are Bush - when he made his "Where's the WMDs?" jokes ("Not under here!") and McCain when he said he supports and visits injured Iraqi veterans and they give him inspiration while campaigning AGAINST an Iraqi veteran who lost both of her legs serving her country. He should have at least had the decency to stay out of that race.
