I'm happy with this but I know people who won't be...

U2 frontman Bono is being awarded an honorary knighthood by the Queen, the British Embassy in Dublin has said.
The singer, whose real name is Paul Hewson, has been given the honour for "his services to the music industry and for his humanitarian work," it said.

Prime Minister Tony Blair congratulated him, telling the singer in a letter: "You have tirelessly used your voice to speak up for Africa."

The 46-year-old will receive the honour in Dublin early in the new year.

As much of a pompous jerk as he comes off has, he HAS done a lot of great work. Didn't Bill Gates receive a similar honor?

I feel the same as JoeR. Though I'm not sure if he's implying that Bill Gates is a pompous jerk.

I remember reading in a magazine about an interview with Bono, where he went to the Lennon memorial in Central Park on the anniversary of Lennon's death, and said idiotic thing there. And then lots of people going "OMG!! Bono!!" That kind of thing annoys me, especially since U2 aren't really all that amazing.

Not implying that at all. Gates seems to be a likable guy.
